2014 used to be my choice for peak LeBron before 2017

Was just never that high on that year relative to his others. He was still the best player in the league, but in the Finals he was really missing the aggression he had in later years even though he was outmatched.

When Wade is hobbled and you don't really have many other creators on your team, hard to say 18 FGA/game for the series is gonna cut it.

Compare that to 2015, a year I am quite low on otherwise, where he scaled his volume up insanely to compensate for the teammate injuries, and they actually gave the Warriors a scare.

nba.com has every single game from 2013-2024 available on their website now and you can watch it with a LP subscription. I've watched about half of LeBron's full games from 2013-2018 + 2012 playoffs over the past year and it sure put a lot of misconceptions I used to have to rest. Prior to rewatching those games I would've picked 15-18 LeBron over his Miami self with ease. Yeah, I was wrong. The season where he looks his best, by a pretty wide margin to boot, is 2013. We really didn't appreciate that season in real time like we should have. In hindsight it makes perfect sense that he'd be at the top of his powers in his late 20's as opposed to his 30's. Rewatching him from 2012-2018 made it very obvious that we had already seen his best by 2013 (age 28) and everything that followed, great as he still was, was inferior to his 09-13 self.

I think we did. I was here and everyone was going CRAZY during the streak, both over the numbers and just how he looked to the eye. Even JordanBulls was saying he was the next MJ

That being said, if you're asking me to pick a guy to win a game or series with my life on the line, I am going with 2016-18 still. And I definitely don't think 2010-12 has a case over the second Cleveland stint, it's really only 2009 and 2013 that are up there from that original stretch.

Kinda agree. In 2014 his offense was off the charts , he just looked more “Lazy” compared to the previous seasons where he went all out

What a horribly run franchise

We let an all nba level defender walk for under 10m a year lol

So there goes the Caruso dreams this off season

I wonder if this makes Dort expendable or not

He is stockier and can guard heavier guys, but he is only 6'4

Well if we can't get at least a guy like Dort, Caruso (now off the table), or names like that (Marcus Smart for ex), then its probably big game hunting

I mean you would assume so

Theyve shut down all talk of any deal toa team like the Suns and not going to go somewhere just b/c Bronny is drafted

I like the JJ hire vs any of the options, but have no clue how this goes

Bud was a solid option, but got taken

And then missed on Hurley, would have been great it seemed like

And then unsure what happened to David Adelman (nuggets assistant)

Rather JJ thought han garbage coaches like Borrego who have flamed out

So is LeBron going to be the first player coached by a guy who was drafted after him?

2001 Patrick Ewing was coached by Nate McMillan.

Probably are others.

I know it's silly to take those lists seriously, but I can't resist: LeBron at *12th* when Steph is 7th is lol (@ The Ringer's top 100 players post-Finals)

Feels like he's held back for how good he was in the past lmao

Should be flipped.

Doubt Curry is still a top 10 player. I was really down on his defense the past season.

Maybe he has 1 more swansong season in him, but I think he's declined a fair bit.

Any rumors you guys seeing that make sense?

Brook Lopez is a name that has popped up

Rui and 17 for Brook Lopez and 23?

I like that one, can play next to AD and space the floor or without AD. And AD can also close at the 5 vs most teams

Still unsure why we are leaving at DJM honestly

He doesn't move the needle enough for me. Overrated defender seems like or it can be due to ATL and guardings SGs? Shooting is meh.

Not moving Reaves for a guy who doesn't move the needle. And the fit is meh I believe, unless someone has data to prove me wrong

Would love Marcus Smart, but doesn't seem like he is available

At some point around 2021the collectiven nba media decided lebron was too old at late 30's to continue being ranked about the still"prime" (actually early to mid 30's) durant and curry and have not updated their views on that since.

That curry is 36 now and as old as lebron was in 2021 has somehow got ignored by collective inertia

People always expect athletic and physical players to fall off a cliff and good shooters to age gracefully (the old "carmelo will age better than lebron" thingh) when is not actually that simple

Size and iq dont age, curry playstyle uses too much stamina and his speed drop off is more damning on him due to not being that big or fast in the first place so his shooting on ball and off ball become easier to guard and scheme for

While on the defensive end smaller players need to work harder than bigger ones to be decent too

Looks like the Athletic decided to one-up them: Steph and Durant top five.

The athletic sells itself as a the high brow version of sports journalism so hipster (and stupid) picks are a must

I think of it as artsy/hipster circles in art that try too hard to be weird

DJM is better than any other ball handling guard they can acquire. And he's better than Dlo, it's understandable they are linked to him

But is he a good fit? And is he really that good anyways?

For non consistent all star guys, I think I rather have Lavine or even CJ

Lavine should cost no assets, CJ should cost something small

Murray being an athletic guard who doesn't actually get to the rim that much is kind of a red flag, no?
