I can't see him not being a star, he's progressing so rapidly. He's such a unique talent.

He really is a jumpshot away from being dominant. Just turned 20 last week.
Still insane to think we got this kid at #15.

Depends on who you ask. He's still an average player, and a nice prospect. To people who think he's some amazing point guard type, Magic Johnson style tall player? Yea, way overhyped.
Edit: that said, I don't think he's going to become a top tier star, but I'd KILL to have him as one of my forwards going forward right now.

Depends who you ask. If you think he is going to be a superstar, yeah, overhyped.
If you think he will become a solid player with a few all-star selections, I could see it happening.

magic johnson was not a good comparison at all. I think his playing style and size is more like scottie pippen.

We need to get him into the All Star Game ala 1998 Kobe. I think he'd steal the show with a few highlight plays on that kind of big stage
Bucks tricked me into being a diehard in 2001, LeBron is the 2nd best player ever, and pizza is awesome.

Re: The Giannis Antetokounmpo Thread
Best player on one of the very few pleasantly surprising teams in the East. There could be worse choices for the all-star game
And to anybody who says "BUT BRANDON KNIGHT IS UR BEST PLAYER!!!!!" he has the worst +/- on the team, we play much better with him on the bench.
A multiple time all-star is still a top 15 ish player in his prime. Everyone knows Giannis has an extremely high ceiling...and it's obvious watching him too.
If you could see Giannis being a top 15 player, I don't see why it isn't possible for him to be a top 5 player. Now, I haven't seen anyone on here hype him up to be a 100% superstar besides lilojmayo, and I'm not even saying he's going to be a surefire multiple all-star selection type of player. But when you're talking about anything potential with this kid the sky is the limit for him really. i just think it's really hard to overhype a player like Giannis because of his freakish tools

Re: The Giannis Antetokounmpo Thread
Giannis is never going to be able to anchor a top tier offense or a top tier defense, he's just not that type of player on either end. As far as offensive superstars go, they are almost always very apparent early in their career. T-Mac is about the only exception I can think of.
I can't see him exceeding Paul George level, even if everything breaks right. He just doesn't do anything elite, despite showing signs of being very good at a lot of things.
Going to be very very hard for him to crack the top 5, because there will always be guys who are dominant scorers, elite floor generals (or both), and big men that can anchor elite defenses with size and paint protection. I could see him being a good, but not great scorer, I can see him being a good passer for his size, but not a top tier playmaker, and I could see him being a lockdown perimeter defender, but not an anchor.

Re: The Giannis Antetokounmpo Thread
Oh, and if a guy getting 12.5 points per game, and less than 6 rebounds gets into the all star game, it's an even bigger joke than we all thought it was. There could be worse choices for all stars, but there hasn't been a worse choice for an all star yet, so yea...

Re: The Giannis Antetokounmpo Thread
I just voted for my All-Star team today and was surprised to see Giannis as a guard instead of a forward. Thought that was weird since he has played PF for some of this year. Anyway, I voted for Giannis and John Wall to the Eastern Conference All-Star starting backcourt. I don't vote based on merit though, I vote based on blocks, crazy passes, dunks, steals, 3's, streetball handles, rivalries, favorites, and who I just want to see play.
Honestly though, can you blame somebody if they want to see a player with Giannis' physical gifts in a playground style All-Star game instead of the defense, leadership, and steady pick-n-roll play of Kyle Lowry?

Re: The Giannis Antetokounmpo Thread
Giannis would be incredible to watch at the all-star game. It would be more just to see him play than anything. Not many players in the league that are more fun to watch.
Giannis is already a very good passer for his size, I could easily see him being an elite playmaker down the road. Everytime we put the ball in his hands and let him go to work, he will find the open man or take it to the rim and force contact. It's kind of silly to watch because the other team knows it's coming, but they can't do anything about it because he is the longest person you will ever see. I believe that passing is Giannis best skill, some of his passes in these last two years have blown my mind for somebody his size, a lot of them non Bucks fans will never see because our player would blow the easy layup
He will probably be elite at getting to the FT line, which is very important in this league. Him being an elite two way player pretty much comes down to him learning how to shoot the ball well. He is a pretty good FT shooter, and was decent at the spot up 3 last year. He grew more and you can tell he had to readjust the mechanics for his shot.
What does that mean he can't anchor a defense??? He has more defensive potential than anyone in the league outside of AD and possibly Noel

Re: The Giannis Antetokounmpo Thread
He hasn't shown any sign of being a dominant player on either end. I don't mean being pretty good, I mean being a top tier player.
And as for the defense thing... no. He is a perimeter player defensively. He hasn't shown the ability to protect the rim or anything of that sort that would make him a top tier defensive player. Where do you think he's going to make his mark that puts him above everyone but Davis? Is he going to magically become an elite shotblocker and big man defender, despite never showing any sign of that? Is he going to be the best perimeter defender of all time, to the point that he puts himself on par with elite bigs?
I think you're being way overzealous.

Giannis has been matched up with the opposing teams PF and C quite often this season, he does a good job defending every position besides point guards. He still has weight to put on.
By your logic, you have to be a center to be a dominant defender. Don't really understand this. Giannis could be one of the best defenders in the league, is that not good enough? Don't get this argument at all. We have our "anchor" In Sanders anyway. Is Paul George not a dominant, game changing defender because he isn't a center?

Because I have a maximum that is realistically possible. No prediction of a player is 100%, but I would go to great lengths and saying Giannis' ceiling is 3-4 all-stars, and this isn't a bad thing. He is well on his way to becoming a great player in the NBA and he has a very unique skill set for his size/length. It is a joy to watch him rather than all these stretch 4's.

Giannis would do great in an all-star game with defenses going 1/2 speed. He would do some crazy stuff.
