He says Miami's already countered the adjustments and there's some doubt about what Vogel can still do... I guess it's not just an effort thing but it still just seems like blown switches to me.

Sounds like a load of crap to me.
AD took 9 shots in 32 minutes on the court, Lebron was an uncharacteristically heavy turnover machine, Jimmy played one of the best Finals games in NBA history, and LA was still in this game.
Watch LA bounce back next game.

Of course Heat can win. I'm surprised the Lakers played so passively in the face of defense like that.

KCP and Green are shooting 9-40 (22.5%) from three in this series. It'd be really nice if one of the guys LA paid specifically to catch and shoot could actually knock down an open three once in a while.

Butler's outplaying LeBron and Davis in the Finals. That's nuts.

And yet Miami is posting a 114.6 ORTG in this series. As nice as better 3pt shooting would be, offense is not the problem. They've basically allowed Miami to do whatever they want offensively.

Re: The Lebron '20 Thread (Pt. 8)
It's a three game sample size, chill.
That said, Butler has been spectacular, but i don't think the Lakers are taking this series that seriously from a defensive standpoint. I think if they wanted to they could turn up the pressure defensively and make it hard for Miami to put up over 100 points. No way a team like Miami without Bam/Goran should be putting like 120 points on a defensive team like the Lakers. But the Lakers seem happy to just try outscore the Heat in hopes they eventually can't keep up, which was the case in the first two games and could've been in this one if AD didn't have like 9 shot attempts and Butler was going off.
LeBron probably more happy with pushing the tempo and finishing games with 124-113 type scorelines right now. It allows him and AD to pile on some juicy numbers in the Finals. I think if the Heat manage to win another game we're going to see the intensity ramp up on the defensive end and the clamps initiated. Heck, it might very well happen next game if LeBron feels like 3-1 is a must.

Well, Lebron got monstrously outplayed by Butler. He should be embarrassed. But, Davis got outplayed by Olynik (sp?). He should have a bag on his head. I'd swear they threw that game if not for Butler going Lebron on them. Miami just wanted it so much more than the Lakers. Embarrassing effort by the Lakers. Also, KCP and Danny Green have been playing incredibly bad lately. The "shooters" that can't shoot. Ugh...

Re: The Lebron '20 Thread (Pt. 8)
It's not like Miami is even shooting that well from three. 35.4% is the same percentage as the Lakers. Just embarrassing to be playing that kind of defense against a team missing its 2nd/3rd leading scorers and facilitators.
LeBron and AD need to be the ones to step it up on defense. They're the leaders on that end and they were garbage yesterday. From the turnovers to falling asleep on backdoor cuts to getting eaten up by Butler 1-on-1 to providing little resistance at the rim. Yell at KCP or Kuzma all you want, but nobody's going to lock down unless they witness you doing the same and can follow suit.

In what world is he outplaying them in the Finals? He outplayed them in game 3. You really think he was better than them in games 1 and 2?

The gap he has over them in Game 3 is wayyy bigger than the gap they had over him in Game 2 though. In G2 he still put up 25 points, 13 assists, and 8 rebounds while shooting on 56% TS and turning it over just 3 times. And he's been by far Miami's best defender (both man and team) and doesn't have anyone even close to a LeBron or AD level talent to help him share the load. I really think you can make the argument he's been the best guy in this series so far. Even his Game 1 performance while underwhelming definitely wasn't as bad as LeBron and AD's games last night considering their turnovers and poor defensive showings.
Obviously I don't expect this to continue though. I bet both guys bounce back tomorrow and Butler's shooting falls back down to earth a little.

Re: The Lebron '20 Thread (Pt. 8)
I respect his film study and all but he's not a prophet either. He's gotten stuff wrong about series'. The Heat's 5 out is much tougher to defend than expected but I got serious Game 3 Denver vibes where the Lakers only activated Flying Death Machine Mode for a few mins at a time. You can't simulate appropriate fear, you either have it or you don't. Most of the Lakers roster outside of Lebron and Rondo didn't have it. Now they will. Lol idiots.

Re: The Lebron '20 Thread (Pt. 8)
Anyway, if this PS has proven anything to me is that Danny Green is cooked and Kuzma can't be counted on in the future. Those two were supposed to be the 3rd and 4th best players on the roster. Instead, we got Dwight, Caruso, KCP and even Rondo all severely outplaying them. Also Kieff as a mid-season pickup nobody wanted.
Also, remember when people were trying to tell me Dion Waiters is somehow going to be a difference maker in the Playoffs for the Lakers. ''But he's good for just 10-15 minutes bro''. Lmao.
Lakers need to figure out those things coming into next season, because teams are going to get better.

The LeBron and AD were garbage on defense analysis has been overplayed. They were not great but they played adequate defensively.
The real problem is that the scheme their defensive coach employed was utter garbage last game.
What were LeBron or AD suppose to do down the stretch of that game. Regardless if LeBron or AD were taking the challenge to defend Butler, the Heat would just hunt Morris or KCP (especially) on a switch.
Green and KCP must have looked like BBQ chicken to Butler last night. He hunted the two of them relentlessly, the entire game. No resistance, no anything. Between getting fried on defense and missing every sort of open shot, the two of them were utter clowns last game.
Let’s also remember that Hero was giving Caruso the business in isolation late in that game as well. He needs to be better also.
LeBron and Davis need to be better (along with a host of others), but if the scheme does not improve, it will not matter.
It may be time to Harden Butler next game. Give the Heat a bit of their own medicine and matchup zone them here and there. Force the others to beat you, while running them off the three point line. Force them to beat you with drives to the basket.
The Rockets game plan.
If Bam is out, perhaps the Rockets lineup would be useful as well:
KCP
Green
James
Morris
Davis
Don't believe the hype...

Miami's posting a +9.5 offense (adjusted) in the playoffs (Lakers +5.7). Only Utah, who played 1 round, was better. Nobody's been able to contain Miami. They remind me a lot of recent Spurs and GS teams with the way they execute their offense. LA might have to win this on offense and for that, their starting backcourt can't continue to stink it up. Definitely nervous going into Game 4.

This is like the 4th time the Lakers are in trouble this post season. They where in trouble after dropping game 1 against the Blazers, game 1 against the Rockets, game 3 against the Nuggets and here they are in trouble again after dropping game 3 against the Heat.

Re: The Lebron '20 Thread (Pt. 8)
I think the adjustment gotta be what Ty Lue did after going down 3-1. He told the Cavs no more easy switching and you're gonna fight thru all the screens and they'll live with the breakdowns. AD mentioned how the Heat don't really set screens and just slip. Lakers gotta just impose their physicality and stop playing soft

We were still switching vs GS a lot, no?
Here is the biggest adjustment: PLAY WITH **** EFFORT
The lazy switches were so annoying, especially in the 4th.
Lebron and AD were so careless with the ball.
AD was soft AF. The guy is softer than Pau and sometimes mentally fragile or just checked out, like you don't even realize he is in.
I don't expect shooting to be better honestly. DG and KCP will likely shoot much better, but what are the odds Kuzma and Kieff shoot as well from 3? Not high
If we can hit around 35% of our threes, play good d, and have nice games from AD and Bron, we should win it
