Clips have a 2pt difference between regular MOV and non garbage MOV. 3rd stringers killing their numbers.

Interestingly the team with the biggest absolute difference between regular MOV and non-garbage time MOV is the Wizards with them doing 3.8 points worse in the latter than the former.

Some effective stealth tanking there

Clippers look like the juggernaut.................they should be favorites Imo.........
Kawhi to play 70 or more games at this rate most since 2017.........does this prove his load managing was Bs and just wanted to rest? He tore his meniscus last playoff and now in pace to play most games and Mpg in years.............playing every b2b which was unheard of from him........when league said they would cut down on load managing

Clippers are scary good, but I still can't trust them in the playoffs because of health.

Pulling poole to the bench in garbage time improves them

Re: 2023-24 NBA Season Discussion
Can someone explain Cavs recent form?
14-1 in last 15......Alot of blowouts.....Has Strus addition been that impactful? Theyve missed Mobley and Garland for a good chunk of this stretch. Doesnt make sense.......Theyve played Bucks 3 times in stretch and theyre Clips only loss in their last 10 games

Mitchell playing at a near MVP level + lots of solid shooters + Allen playing at an All-Star level = Good
I wouldn't have expected them to be this good though, before this stretch I thought they'd have a lot of tough decisions going into the trade deadline being roughly around 500.
They've had a pretty light schedule too with some opponents on rest and also a lot of days off surrounding the Paris game. I think that definitely has a little to do with it too.

Re: 2023-24 NBA Season Discussion
The eight-game win streak means nothing to me. Any decent team should have handled that stretch comfortably, and I think the first round exit (perhaps rightly) makes people forget they were a top three SRS team most of last year.
This current streak is more impressive, with wins over the Kings, Clippers, and relatively healthy Bucks (which might not actually be that good a win lol but still). Even then, we saw a much less talented team in the Jazz go 12-2 over a stretch with wins over the Nuggets and Mavericks, so it certainly happens.

https://www.statmuse.com/nba/ask/worst-team-defensive-rating-in-season-nba-history
12 of the 15 worst team defensive ratings have occurred this year. It isn't because NBA teams don't try on defense. Contrary to media reports, and as everyone on the board knows, team strategies are more sophisticated than ever. Rather the combination of shooting, 3 point line distance and NBA rules for carrying, traveling, moving screens, defense simply can't work the way it used to.
Whether the NBA should do anything about this depends on the impact on the business. But if no changes are made we are going to have league average defensive ratings in the 120s by the end of the decade.

Agreed, and I do believe the bolded is the main reason, though the superior and prolific 3-point shooting exacerbates the issue that defenses league-wide face.
IIRC, the change in the way the league wanted the game to be played occurred after the last TV rights deal was signed. I believe they are up soon, and so we shall see if the NBA heads made the correct decision approximately 6-8 years ago.
Personally, I (the useless sample size of one) would like to see today's players - the greatest collection of talent the game has ever seen, by far - in an environment where the league-wide ORTGs are within the 1980-2016 Equilibrium Era range. Game 5 of last year's NBA Finals was IMHO the greatest NBA game of the past 40 years. The playoffs (play-in games included) as a whole were amazing. Again, this is just me, but I personally would like the current talent to play in a regular season environment where defenses aren't handicapped.

I just want to emphasize I complete agree with this. The things I see NBA players do now routinely blows me away even compared to a decade ago.

Timberwolves have the best defensive rating in the league this year is the Timberwolves with a defensive rating of 109.5 (removing garbage time). Relative to league average that's one of the best defensive ratings ever. However, That would be a bottom-10 defensive team in the 2013-14 season

That is a bold and wild claim. How come you think that?

Even as a fan, I've been let down way too many times to fully trust them until I see them do it in the playoffs, especially considering PG and Harden's postseason track records.
That being said: this regular season has had a different feel to it. As much as the Clippers have had the "great regular season team, bad playoff team" image over the past 12 years, I believe this is the latest into the season that we've ever been #1 in the West. Fingers crossed that the different level they've been playing on in the regular season will translate to a different playoff performance than the usual.
