Man was pick and roll player his whole career. Now he is "forced" to play one on one and he was never great at it. Maybe he would have been in his younger years but since he got "fat" he lost his speed and he can't dribble penetrate 1v1.
I still don't know why they force him to play 1v1 and not pick and roll/pop.
Watching this series showed me once more how much this man wants to win and how little stats mean to him. Jumping to that jump ball twice before referee throwed it is a perfect example.

They’re relying on him much less as a 1v1 creator than they did last year. Think his role has changed nicely with his decline. EG is the one taking on most of the scoring guard responsibilities these days which is how it should be. CP3 has taken on the floor general role and while he striggled the first two games against GSW he was able to get those lineups really rolling last night.

I do think the Rockets need to embrace the conventional pick and roll offense even more than they already have with the Paul + bench lineups in. That will always be his bread and butter, even with the drop off in play.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CP!
Obviously not a great game, but he made key plays down the stretch. The steal on Draymond was one of the biggest plays of the game. The rebounds were huge and the drive on Curry.

3-14, 0-6 from 3. Sigh. He's toast as a creator.
Going forward, even if his jumper returns to form, I don't see him even replicating present day Lowry offensive impact....particularly in Houston's offense. Kyle can at least pretend to play downhill and is a much bigger spot up threat.
He's a prideful mofo, so I know he hates playing like this on a team that's so close but damn I don't see it getting any better.

I don't see how anyone can root for him honestly.
He is a disgrace to the sport with his flopping at times.
The NBA need to start fining players.

Well he's 34. That's a normal age to see significant decline, sadly

Re: The CP3 Thread 18-19 Part 1
He’s been the 4th best player on the team this postseason. Maybe 5th if Capela were consistently healthy.
Still he’s a very valuable player. I don’t think there are many PGs that could step into his place right now and do this. His defense is still insane.

It's probably more of him being washed up, than simply choking. He's pretty much starting the twilight of his career now.

Agreed. He can't score much but he does a lot else

He can still run a pick and roll okay, it’s just everything he does is nullified by a switch since he can’t beat even below average big men off the dribble anymore.
His contract is going to be one of the very worst in NBA history though if he’s already this level of player in year 1.

Well I think he'll still be a positive impact player. Without him the warriors probably sweep . He'll be 36 in his last year of the contract so I don't think he'll necessarily fall off a cliff

I used to love CP3. Now I can't stand him. His contract is going to eat Houston alive for the next few years.

Re: The CP3 Thread 18-19 Part 1
Chris Paul shrinking in the most important playoff moments happens EVERY. SINGLE. YEAR.
But there's a group of posters who won't aknowledge it. At this point, you just accept it for what it is- pure denial.
When I get to this point (as I have with some of the other players on this forum as well, you know who I'm alluding to), I can finally be at peace with knowing it's not actually a matter of facts but rather that they choose to believe what they want.

How did he shrink last year? He was the best player on both the Rockets and Warriors. Or the year before that...or the year before that. Losing doesn't mean shrinking. "there are a group of people who refuse to acknowledge that".
Chris Paul is not in his prime anymore...
