I have Duncan at number 10 behind KAJ, MJ, Russell, Shaq, Hakeem, LeBron, Wilt, Bird, and Magic (No order).

I don't think anybody really has a good argument against Duncan besides those nine players. TD is the gatekeeper to my top 10.

I've got him at #6.
Only Jordan, Kareem, Shaq, Russell & Magic are ahead of him.

Jordan & Russell I don't really need to explain.

Shaq and Kareem are a step above Duncan.
They were not as good defensively but they were similar rebounders/passers and much better offensive anchors.
Plus Shaq was more consistent then Duncan and Kareem has him beat in longevity.

I think O'neal & Kareem also aged better than Duncan

12th year (playoffs)
Shaq : 22 / 13
Kareem : 25 / 10
Duncan : 20 / 8

Magic was more consistent and on average over his Prime arguably more impactful.

Hakeem probably Peaked higher and had a higher ceiling as a player.
He was clearly a more talented scorer then Duncan and the greater athlete.
You could argue that he would have had Duncan like success if given similar career circumstances.

So really I only have Jordan, Kareem, Shaq & Russell "clearly" above Duncan.
I have Magic over him also and Hakeem one slot behind him.

Duncan was a better rebounder than Kareem. Duncan, this past season at 37, was a better rebounder than Kareem was the entire second half of his career (1979-80 on).

I'm not sure why it requires much explanation.

If you're focusing on peak then other players would have to be considered over Duncan. Shaq's peak trumps Duncan's, but he wasn't as effective for as long and has had his share of poor playoff series, not to mention the issues he's had on every team he's played on. Bird is another that comes to mind as a player who's had a higher peak.

Peak is nice and all in that it tells us what a player can do at his absolute best, but I'd be more interested in a player that can consistently perform at an elite level for a longer period of time.

Shaq's peak trumps Duncan, but I don't know about Bird at all.

Just outside the top 10 for me. In no particular order:

Wilt
Pettit
West
Magic
Kobe
Russell
Kareem
Shaq
Jordan
Hondo
Bird

Kobe is silly enough for the top 10, but Pettit and Hondo are outright laughable.

I agree here, Hakeem is the guy for me I would rank 5th. Duncan is in tbe mix of Kobe, Shaq, Magic and Jerry West

I value players by level of play and prime and peak have more value for me than longevity (it's better to have 4 great years, than 10 above average).

Jordan, Russell, KAJ, Shaq, LJ, Oscar, Magic, Bird, Hakeem, KG - all are higher than Duncan. So he is probably 11th, but Dr J, Wilt or even Kobe might be also above Tim.

Tim Duncan is very overrated . Here are 12 players better

Bob mcadoo
Charles Barkley
Shaq
Karl Malone
Moses Malone
Juilus Erving
Jordan
Magic
Bird
Lebron
Hakeem
Kareem

Old Timers just for a bonus
Russell
West
Wilt
Baylor

That's an odd statement to make, considering advanced stats favor Duncan over KG.

I find that those who prefer KG just ignore the advanced stats that don't favour him. For instance, "let's use playoff plus minus, since the new APM doesn't favour KG anymore". Really, the argument for KG just doesn't exist. Look at what Duncan and KG did head to head in 2002. KG had the better support cast, but the clearly worse results. The next season Duncan's support cast was still worse than what KG had in 2002, and he won the championship!

The difference between KG and Duncan is what organization they were drafted by . That's about it . Same Longevity,Production but one was apart of a great organization and was nurtured by a Hall of famer ,the other not so much .

9-10. When was Duncan ever the clear cut best player in the league? Never.

Excuse me? He was at least the best player in 2003.

How was he clearly the best player if KG damn near won MVP over him and had comparable/better production in the regular season and the playoffs?

How was he clearly better than prime Shaq when Shaq had better production than him in both the regular season and the playoffs? Was he clearly better than Shaq in 2002 also?

Is it just because his team went farther? Am I supposed to be impressed with the Spurs beating a 44 win Suns team, a 50 win Laker team, a Mavs team without their best player and a 49 win Nets team (lol)?

He never separated himself from KG, Shaq, or Kobe in his prime in terms of dominance. If you drop someone like Bird in 2003 they would clearly be the best in the league.

not sure but mostly yes:

so Duncan's about 7-11 for me

Oscar and KG are mostly yes over Duncan? What's your reasoning?

1999, and 2003 for sure to me. 2002 is very arguable as well with Shaq missing like 13 games I believe
