I will change my vote over to Jerry Lucas to send it to a runoff. Did everything measureable better than DeBusschere though the defensive edge clearly cuts the other way. However, when I watched Lucas a lot with the Knicks, he looked like he gave the effort defensively though clearly not a star. The ascension of the Knicks after the Bellamy/Lucas trade does give me pause, but opinions from that era seem to favor Lucas as well even without the statistical focus many of us have looking back.

I'll end this runoff with a vote for DeBusschere.

It will be over at 5PM EST tomorrow . . . and I need some argument from you to back up your vote.

I'll vote Jerry Lucas for the reasons stated in my previous post.

Looks like a tie unless and until Notanoob gives his reasons (in a new post please so we have the timing if there's another vote cast) or another poster votes. SUDDEN DEATH, first vote wins!

Hmm, would happily break the tie but am struggling to confidentally say one is better. Depends a lot on team context. Lucas is a lot better by the boxscore, DeBusschere has a much better defensive rep. I tend to lean on adjusting the former based on the latter. DeBusschere was on some bad teams when he was one of the top 2 players early in his career (but did clearly improve the Knicks), Lucas as I recall has some horrible WoWY numbers. Hmm.

Jerry Lucas is a deserving candidate but I'll go with Dave DeBusschere in the run-off. Very good/great defender with good longevity. In addition to being a great defender, DeBusschere could do a bit of everything and was an intense player with excellent intangibles and high bball IQ.

Vote: Dave DeBusschere

To be honest, I'm just pretty down on Lucas at this point. Years back I used to champion in projects like this, and I'd be critical of Oscar Robertson. As we get more information though Lucas seems like a guy who simply had inflated stats in Cincy. And while i think Lucas did good things on the Knicks, well, DeBuss did better things, and in general to me he's guy who always found a way to provide value to his team.
