Re: RealGM Top 100 All-Time List
Last time we started out with the immortal 6 (Jordan, Chamberlain, Abdul-Jabbar, Johnson, Bird, Russell). Everyone voted for one of the 6 nominees and at the same time nominated one candidate to join the list for the next spot. So if Shaq got the most nominees when we voted for nr 1 overall, he would join the list making 6 candidates for spot nr 2.
Votes didn't count over, but IMHO I think they should this time around.

Sounds good, we can keep the same format going, but I'm down for tkb's idea of keeping the vote count going.

Re: RealGM Top 100 All-Time List
If you mean votes from previous rounds should continue to add, I strongly disagree. If you add a new candidate to the list and he immediately gets the top number of votes, it probably means he is the strongest candidate but there was someone on the list already that duplicated his skill set. And, if there is a weak candidate on the list but with one stubborn supporter, they can just vote for him each round and even if he never gets another vote, he will get in over more deserving candidates. Plus, it complicates the whole thing. Not a good idea.

Yeah, like I said its up for you guys to decide, lets just keep the format the same of the old list, and if you guys want to add anything etc. just list the ideas, and we will all decide.

First I'd like to assemble a list of judges, 20 sounds good (or we can go less or we can go more), so just post if your interested in doing this.

Has writerman been active recently? I know he wouldn't want to get left off this committee.

Yeah, his presence and knowledge would be good to have for something like this. He'd have a different pov and opinion to contrast with other posters, and he knows more about older players than most.

WTH? the 20 judges include scrubs who have under a 1000 posts? Where are nate33, the Thief, loserx, etc. ? Pulling stunts like that make threads like this lose credibility.

Re: RealGM Top 100 All-Time List
Hard2hole, you are an excellent example of why having 1,000+ posts is completely meaningless. There is absolutely nothing that suggests post volume in ANY way correlates with quality of thought or exposition.
For example, if Doug Collins decided to start posting here right now (one of the NBA's best analysts and minds), he'd be a ballboy and by your criteria, that would make him a "scrub."
Post count is meaningless; Either quit moaning and let the posters who are going to try and make this a good exercise with meaningful conversation get on with what they are doing...
Or go away.
Your negativity is unwanted and unneeded.

Re: RealGM Top 100 All-Time List
Hey guys quick question, what is the target for the number of judges? And tsherkin your knowledge will help us a lot, so its really fine with me if you come in after September 1st. Because the first 1-15 shouldn't be a problem, but its the ones after that. And if you want to you can just post if you have the time to every now and then in any of the threads (you don't have to post in every thread, but you can feel free to voice your opinion), so I'll just add your name in, if you'd like that? Because like I said the first couple won't be a problem, and your knowledge can really be useful later on (after September 1st).

When are we supposed to start? I say perhaps after the olympics.

JordansBulls that sounds good to me, its all up to you guys, we can get this thing started right now, I really don't have a problem, its what ever you guys decide.
And TMACFORMVP, I think we should base this on accomplishments (awards, championships, leadership) and stats also play a big role of course. Same as the previous one I guess, I can't look back at it for my reference obviously now that its gone, but some of you that participated in the last one should know more about this.

Re: RealGM Top 100 All-Time List
My thoughts:
-As others have said, quality over quantity. If this is anything like when fotg and I ran it last time, a large chunk of the people you recruit now will disappear. What will make the project a success is having a core group (5-10 people) who you can count on. If you have no grasp on which people those will be then I suppose quantity is the way to hedge your bets, just know that there will be decay.
-I'd also recommend not having a hard limit on the people who can vote. This project is going to take a while and there's bound to be good people who show up after the deadline. You don't have to accept everyone who asks, but if someone appears to be good, don't hesitate to add them.
-Try to think about everything you'll have to do to run the project. Make sure you're not making the task more than you can handle. For example, if you're not going to count every vote that gets posted, you're going to have to identify every single vote as count-worthy or not, and if you're going to do things like count votes from the previous rounds, that's just going to mean more work for you. Not trying to dissuade you, just make sure you're being practical.
-As far as whether I think counting previous votes is good. I think that it would be great as long as no one's vote ever gets double counted. Ideally someone voting for a player will count in every round after that until they change their mind or the player gets voted in. I would hate it though if a voter was able to push a joke vote into the top 100 simply by voting repeatedly.

And yes, I'm in. I don't have time to be a leader this time around, but I'll contribute what I can.
