A 7’5 big man shooting like 6+ 3s is insanity lmao. Previous eras, coach would look at him crazy. Dude so frail, idek if he’ll be an elite rebounder

Nothing went in, and I could see some concerns about the rebounding tonight, instinct/assertiveness didn't seem dialed up. Showed some decent passing touch.

But mostly the Spurs just cruised to victory in a game they scored 76 points. The length was unreal. I'm ready to see some Wemby in regular season action.
I bought a boat.

Not really a great argument considering most coaches back then were too dumb to even let their good 3 point shooters shoot threes.

Where did I argue anything? Regardless, shouldn’t be jacking up threes. At all

Yep, he'll definitely be more impactful on defense long before he's anything special on offense. He's the closest thing to a Dpoy caliber lock we've had in a while. He only needs to be an all-star on offense to be special.

If that’s what he becomes then he’s just an AD. I don’t anticipate him being an iron man in the league. All this forced media hype for another AD?

His ceiling on Defense is even higher than AD's and we saw what a fully locked in AD on defense can look like out there.

The hype is about his potential my statement was just the minimum i think he needs to reach in order to he a special player. Nothing more.

Probably already an all-D caliber guy, lol.
This place is a cesspool of mindless ineptitude, mental decrepitude, and intellectual lassitude. I refuse to be sucked any deeper into this whirlpool of groupthink sewage. My opinions have been expressed. I'm going to go take a shower.

I just saw the highlights but it looks like he made some passes. I suspect he won't have much interest in playing like a big man on offense but that might be ok. He is a frankenstein combo of modern basketball theory.
It's going to be a glorious day... I feel my luck could change

For a Wemby thread, there’s one on the GB - but I’d welcome one here no doubt!

For scouting overall, I’ve made a Twitter account recently just to post film and analysis of prospects / younger players in the league. I’ll link some work here if it intrigues anyone.

Chet Holmgren moves fluid for a guy his size. Wemby looks like a guard compared to Chet.

I take it the night and day shift in efficiency is more or less a result of a better offensive process and playing closer to the basket? Unfortunately couldn’t tune it tonight.

Horford would have dominated the G-League when he was 19. He was the 2nd best player on the NCAA Champion at that age

He got going early and gained some confidence. This setting isn’t great for him as the hornets and blazers just collapsed on him as soon as he got the ball the majority of the time. So his play looks sloppy. Even tho the competition will be much higher, running a real offense in the NBA will help him as he learns to pass out of double teams.

Even still, he showed a lot of the flashes he already has in Europe. For all the talk about his lack of strength he had a great finish though contact. Covers so much ground on defense and his touch inside is real. Had one move where he had nowhere to go, spun around and banked it off the glass win one hand.

For reasonable fans, they understand he's going to take time to develop which is obviously fine. It's the bizarre fans who clamor to call guys busts before they even finish their rookie year who he'll have to deal with.

His next game is tomorrow night at 10:30 PM eastern against the wizards on NBA TV (and maybe ESPN+).

Very well said. I find neither of the ESPN / big-market coverage (at-least most of it, I liked his appearance on JJ's pod-cast and his interviews a lot so far) or the over-correction by many to be productive. It seems most on here (including some of my favorite posters / closer acquaintances) all have brought great takes with - at the minimum - a fair share of common ground regarding Wembanyama's development, ceiling, and potential. Reasonable expectations and discourse is key

The interest in Wemby feels different than any prospect I can remember coming in the league or playing in SL (I was a few years too young for Lebron's). This has "generational prospect" vibes for sure.
