You actually have to give (Walton) some credit in 86 for playoffs.
...
In a discussion of good reserves sure; he was a valuable reserve center in the 1986 playoffs. In terms of being one of the top 20 or even top 100 players in NBA history, almost none . . .
He played 291 minutes in the 1986 playoffs (18 minutes a game and he didn't even play all 18 games). Boston's big 3 all played over 700. I don't think that Walton was so great in his short stretches of coming in for Parish or McHale as to be considered at THIS level of greatness. He isn't even on the horizon if you are looking at 1986. It's 77 or nothing.
He was celtics best rebounder in finals, best in eff fg%, and 2nd to bird in offrtg - defrtg. He was more valuable to team in finals than parish in finals.
Obviously in your 77 or nothing you are referring to playoffs.
Don't know where to rate him, but there are a number of players I have to take first.

Jabbar was averaging 37 a game in the playoffs before playing Portland.
Walton didn't let jabbar beat them, boarded pretty evenly, and had the Portland offense run through him.
Fairly even matchup- Walton didn't outplay him as some proclaim, but held him down to mortal levels.
Hakeem embarrassed Robinson.
And jabbar was better than Hakeem.
