He was very bad the entire series offensively until tonight.

My thoughts exactly.
And for the record, the 4th quarter in a close game is always the most important quarter, where the elite step it up. I could care less if you score 30 if that means your matchup beats you out and wins the game in the final ten minutes.
When it comes to Paul, I predict the same thing annually and it always happens. I also called that Paul would have no shot at a championship as first option over a decade ago. Now it looks like second option is unlikely as well. But this won’t change the unjustified favoritism.
This didn’t happen out of a dislike of Paul’s game. It happened from the un-earned pedestal that his fans put him on. Being able to admit an objective experience is much more true and productive than making excuses. Chris Paul did not play well- not at all by the standards that he’s held to on this forum.

Looked a bit gassed in the 4th as well, went to stand in the corner, hands on knees for a few Harden iso possessions. He might not have the body type or conditioning required for endurance at a high level this late in the season.

Hopefully he never psyches himself out on his jumper again.
He should still be a modest all-star(level player) for a couple more years if not.
Quietly a top 15 RPM in a disaster jumpshooting season. He’s far from done.

A bit unrelated but I enjoy listening to Paul's post game interviews. He seems to have more insight and analysis than other players of what exactly went wrong and right. Instead of play-by-play, he'll talk about what is changed to sway the game. It's cool to listen to.

It also shows up with his impact data given he is one of the most impactful players to ever play in the NBA.

He was once again the highest rated Guard in DRPM by a good margin. His game is going to age like a barrel of 2000 Caymus Cab Sauv.

I would love to hear your take on this. In the top 20 players of all time, where does Chris Paul rank on "impact"?

I’ve started to believe his jump shooting issues are at least in part because he’s slow and struggles to create separation. I mean his FT shooting was fine, it can’t still be the elbow bothering him. I don’t think his jumper is just gonna come back like magic.
Still a really effective guy. Top 15 player for sure. But he really is done as an effective shot creator IMO.

Top 15 feels a little high going forward, but he should stay effective for as long as he's healthy, too smart not to be helpful.

But having him and Harden on the floor is a recipe for pressure choking.
It happens time and time again.
it was the opposite...he started off bad and got better as the game went on.
Yeah but you actually watched the game while Bledredwine chilled his red wine and watched YouTube videos of Michael Jordan from 1985.
To be fair, he had chrispauloverrated.blogspot.com open in a background tab so you can’t say he was totally slacking.

i dont think hes top 15 anymore........hes like a souped up Mavs Jkidd with still clearly better creation
Giannis, Lebron, Kd, Kawhi, Harden, Steph, Lillard, Jokic, Embiid, Davis, Jrue, Siakam, Blake, Draymond, George, Oladipo, Gobert, Westbrook, Kat, Jimmy, Millsap, Conley, Kyrie, Kemba, Middleton, Bledsoe, Lma, Vucevic, Horford
i wouldnt say every single one of those players are better but i have a hard time seeing Cp as a top 20 player going forward

Oof, you’re right, I’d probably have him outside the top 20.
His defense is underrated tho. I’d have him as the #3 defensive guard after Smart and Jrue and I think you could make arguments for him over either of those guys. Just insane how much defensive value he gets out of his 6 foot nothing body.

Re: The CP3 Thread 18-19 Part 1
Interest tidbit.
Stephen Curry wanted to get some shots up at Toyota Center on Thursday night, the eve of Game 6 against the Houston Rockets.
The Warriors' manager booked the court from 7 PM to 8 PM so Curry could work on his shot.
But Chris Paul heard about Curry's reservations and canceled them by using the hour to get shots up himself. Curry offered to stick to half a court, but Paul wouldn't allow it.
Following Golden State's Game 6 win over the Rockets, Draymond Green stood outside the Warriors' locker room to greet teammates as they came in. When Curry greeted Green, he screamed “Kick me off the court again, boy!”
Green replied to Curry's taunt: “Kick him off! Kick him off!”

what a monster

No, if I were to comment on that, it would be to point out that this is further evidence of what a petty jerk Chris Paul can be. I wouldn't say it had any impact on Curry's shooting in game 6. I'm sure he got plenty of shots up prior to the game.
I heard plenty of respect given by the Warriors to James Harden in the their postgame comments. Conversely, when the Warriors celebrated their series win over Houston, Brian Windhorst reported that they repeatedly invoked Chris Paul's name, "surrounded by curse words." As someone mentioned in the playoffs thread, Chris Paul used to be 75 percent skill and 25 percent antics, but that ratio has flipped to 25/75.
If you're not outraged, you're not paying attention.

Re: The CP3 Thread 18-19 Part 1
Last year was Chris' version of a championship even with the way it ended. It was the last year of his prime, his only year on a dominant team, not only got to the WCF, but went 3-2 against the Warriors.
I enjoyed it so much, they just dominated the entire league when he played. I remember watching every game thinking they would win, even in the Warriors series I felt they were SUPPOSED to win that. They were basically like the Warriors it felt like. That was HIS and the Rockets' year.
This year added no positive value to his career or legacy, it maybe even took away from it. In the past when he eventually lost, I was still somewhat satisfied by him playing a great season, but this year there was nothing to be satisfied with at all. Tough season.

Anyway, what he did wasn't petty at all. It wasn't some pointless jab to spite him. Though that is the easy purely emotional takeaway.
It would be a bad move to allow him to just shoot at-will if you're a player. At least if you can stop it.
It's gamesmanship.
