A little random, but one of the interesting things about growing older in the context of being a sports fan is being able to let go of your biases and evaluating players a lot more objectively.

I've been doing a fair bit of that lately and my opinions are pretty crazy compared to even say 5 years ago, let alone 10. I am working on a new GOAT list and will put it out at some point, very interested to see how the posters who've known me on here for over a decade will react.

It destroys journalistic credibility because the debates are inherently insincere. I don't think for a moment Skip believed what he said here:

The risk for ESPN as a brand beyond what you said are:

1. These shows are often pretty joyless. It isn't so much that they're yelling at each other but they often times give off the vibe that they don't like each other. And that is strange TV. The most popular tv shows tend to have casts that give off the vibe that they like each other. Most of my favorite announcing crews (Madden/Summerrall, Marv/Fratello) gave off the vibe they liked each other even if they busted each other's chops.
2. The negativity of these programs make it very hard to develop new stars. I've said before I dislike how Jordan's real personality was covered up by the media but these programs go the exact opposite way. It is always a negative framing about the players.
3. You make the audience you maintain dumber.

In general, if I was the NBA I'd try to make it hard for these programs to use highlights on these shows (if possible).

You know what, I've slowly started to realize that basketball (and really any entertainment) is actually a lot more fun to watch and is way more enjoyable when you don't have random people on social media telling you that everything is terrible.

I'm thoroughly enjoying the Olympics because I have it on in the background as I'm working. It's just a blast to see everyone competing and doing their thing. Then I get on social media and everyone is complaining about things I wasn't even aware of.

I guess the point of this rant is that sometimes, ignorance really is bliss.

This really do be the only site where people get all sensitive and think calling a take stupid is a personal attack lol, getting permabanned (well 2 years but I mean yeah lol) for calling Djokers takes stupid (1992 blazers over the 2016 warriors!) is actually hilarious

It is kinda sad in the sense that I was on here for awhile and kind of have seen the quality of this board go down in absolute flames ever since the new mod team got in a bunch of years ago, most good posters just left one way or another and anyone whose opinions I actually respect I talk to them normally outside the forum (my boy bad Gatorade)

Obviously those who knew me early on, we’ll the few left, I used to be pretty nice and randomly became an **** over the last few years, that’s been a pretty conscious decision.

Like I frequent a few forums, and on pretty much all of them I’m the nice guy that helps people out with stuff, (although someone apparently stole my username on Reddit? Weirdo behavior) I’m a dick on realgm solely because this is the most passive aggressive condescending place I know in the context of literally basketball takes (which is hilarious), and peregrine is the only one who actually makes any insightful on court basketball arguments on here that I don’t talk to outside the forum (HCL my boy I gotta get his discord or something). Tsherkin too but he’s not around as much. Literally almost everyone back then that could actually watch the game and have some semblance of understanding of what’s going on has dipped lol. The level of basketball knowledge being incredibly low is fine because who cares but there’s this weird elitism here too that makes it corny as hell lol

Like damn lol it’s crazy how everyone has to immediately shut up when I bring Xs and Os into the mix, obviously I know what I’m talking about there but I’ve even made jokes and posted some absolute BS in that regard (sometimes, not most of the time obviously) there and no one can ever tell because none of y’all ever watch the game and lol

But everyone knows the boards gone to **** and I’ve just stayed on to troll for the last few years anyw especially after a 6 month ban for a lawyer joke on Jake

But I do wanna say, Jesus Christ this may be the single worst moderation team I’ve ever seen on any sports forum lol. Like y’all aren’t just incompetent y’all are insecure lmao (not Clyde he’s great)

It’s insane to me y’all genuinely can’t have a discussion about moderation in a public forum and send out a warning for “backseat modding.” Don’t give out some bull over DMs too because not only is it dumb as hell that y’all are too insecure to have a public discussion on policies but ANYONE who knows about the Eballa stuff knows it’s **** lol. Y’all will literally lock a thread to get a last word in it’s hilarious. This is by far the most absurd thing honestly, in a public forum y’all refuse to receive any form of criticism or even complaints or opinions on moderation as the quality of the board continues to sink into the ocean floor.
2. Genuinely insane how y’all handled that lebron thread stuff with that Bot gregoire so poorly that people left the forum and multiple people were like “wtf are y’all doing” and even said suggestions everyone agreed with, and y’all got on the thread and got in a circle to suck each others dicks about how well you guys handled it and how good of a mod team y’all are and how lenient y’all are lol. I’ve literally made a KG joke to peregrine in a convo just the two of us had and penbeast’ head was so far up his ass he thought I was baiting him because he’s apparently a KG fan in a convo he wasn’t a part of, dawg you think I know ur opinion I’ve never thought on this forum “damn penbeast responded I wanna hear his insight” even when I was like 14 lol, that’s some special behavior(peregrine said KG overrated, I was like, careful bro u might get banned for this, obviously joking about how the board is very high on KG lol)
3. You guys will talk on DMs, dip out when it’s clear y’all are in the wrong, and then when someone asks about it will literally delete messages and twist around messages and make your own narrative about what happened lol and act like it’s just people lashing out when it’s y’all being incompetent and only showing stuff when someone calls you stupid at the end

Like y’all can delude ur selves into thinking you guys are a good moderation team but the board went to absolute **** under your supervision because you guys know how to actually moderate a forum to keep up its quality

To be clear: 100% okay with the ban, it’s absurd it took 3 years for this moderation team to realize I was here to troll (mostly because whenever I made serious post people would go :0 woah he said something that happened on the court instead of on the spreadsheet), Tsherkin was a great mod that kept the quality of the site up and would have banned me a loooong time ago but this situation would have never happened because he actually kept the board high quality. You guys just don’t know how to sift out trolls whatsoever, I mean I know one jordan guy on the forum that literally has had threads talking to himself on his multiple accounts and y’all don’t do a thing it’s hilarious. Y’all are so stupid y’all forgot to click the ban button on me lmfao and just sent me a DM saying I’m banned. It would be hilarious if the comeback was “it was the site admins” showing that y’all can’t do your jobs even more to ban someone blatantly trolling

Yes. Try engaging with basketball opinions and not calling other people stupid. If you can't do that, find another forum to post on.

I've been a mod here for more than 10 years and while the quality of posts for most posters has actually gone up, the degree of namecalling and other immature behavior by a small but consistent group of posters has made it a more toxic place in the last two years. Hopefully we can remove those posters who insist on insulting other posters from the board and get back to being a place where people talk about basketball.

Idk if it was something else that triggered the ban but there's a pretty clear difference between calling someone stupid and calling their argument stupid. And the latter probably doesn't warrant two year bans but that's just me
