A few things guys:

1 - As mentioned before, it's fine for you to change your mind on your voting, but please only vote in one post. Meaning, edit the post. With some people's votes, I had to 1) recognize it was a replacement vote, 2) go back and find the original vote, 3) remove that first vote from the scoring. Huge pain in the ass that should not be necessary.

2 - There were some votes from people not in the project. Everyone should check the list on the main project page to make sure they're in the project and talk to me if they're not. If you know you are not in the project, it's okay to make a vote, but please make very clear that you're not in the project when you do that to make it easier on me.

3 - This is MOST important: Tone down the negativity. I'm getting PMs from people saying that the attacking of others credibility is making this not fun for them, and that they may leave the project. This might seem trivial, but it's not. This is a long project. For all of us it's going to be a huge time suck. I sure as hell don't want to get to the '70s and be left with a half dozen people cursing at each other. Not everyone knows as much as you - deal with it. I will be keeping an eye out for odd behavior, but in the scale of things, having a sketchy voter is not nearly as bad as losing multiple good posters - which I guarantee you will happen if we don't turn that frown upside down.

I am not in the project, but just stating my view on the matter

My top 5 would have to be

1. Lebron James- Amazing regular season and playoff performance, although his game winner agains the Magic is getting way overrated by the media.
2. Kobe Bryant- Was going to go with Wade here, but decided that Kobe winning the ship had to make him No. 2
3. Dwyane Wade- Played amazing in the regular season, but early postseason exit makes him slide to No. 3
4. Dwight Howard- Best defensive player in the league that year, and helped lead his team to the Finals.
5. Chris Paul- Played outstanding on a weak Hornets team. Had a bad playoff series, but still led the league in assists and steals for the 2nd straight season

My Ballot for 2009 POY:

1. LeBron James
2. Dwyane Wade
3. Kobe Bryant
4. Chris Paul
5. Dwight Howard

I thought LeBron was the best player heading into the season. That he clearly improved and had an historically good season made this an easy choice.

Bryant and Wade were extremely close at 2-3. Advanced metrics favor Wade. I think Wade had a larger defensive impact. People seem to be down on his team-oriented results. I'm fairly impressed with what he did: 43-wins a near upset with players a rookie Michael Beasley, rookie Mario Chalmers, James Jones, the aristist formerly known as Jermaine O'Neal, Haslem and Daequan Cook. (Is it me or that one mercurial rookie, one solid role player a bunch of cast-offs?)

Unlike most posters, I see the playoffs as a wash. Kobe was awesome in 2 rounds and left something to be desired in 2 others. Wade had 2 bad games vs. Atlanta – one of which he had back spasms – but was also spectacular in 3 games and solid in 2 others losses (game 7 was a bad shooting affair, but he would have had to have 50 for Miami to even have a chance). Kobe's last four games of the Finals didn't sit well with me: 52% TS%. 4th quarter numbers: 31% FG% 5 assists 4 TO's.

Chris Paul – not going to dock him because he played in the playoffs on a bumb wheel. Not going to dock him because the team was a mess. Paul still had an historically good season from a statistical perspective, and he was fairly unbelievable. Clearly the best PG, and hard for me to find three players with a bigger impact on their teams. Seems to me the problem was the rest of the team, not him (for instance, Paul's WS/48 went up from 08 to 09: +.08). Here's the rest of his cast:

Howard edges Dirk at 5 in a tossup to me -- I think Dirk gets bumped because it was his worst season in some time so Howard's 82 regular season games are the tiebreaker. Could go either way on this...

In the future, when I say 3 days, I really mean just about 72 hours. I made the thread on Monday morning my time, and I tallied the votes on Thursday morning. Also, all of this stuff takes time that I'm obviously not getting paid for, so I'm not going to guarantee "you have until 9 AM" or anything like that. Other stuff in my schedule is going to get in the way - I'm expecting that by giving you about 72 hours, you should have plenty of time to cast your vote, so plan accordingly.

It's a good idea that I'll keep in mind. As long as I'm able to find enough time, I'd rather do it this way. Every thing is transparent, nobody can accidentally screw it up beyond all hope of recovery.
