Yeah, this was exactly what I suggested.

MisterHibachi wrote:So even with this, Quotatious' guy is good, I think it was Alonzo?

Well, with the rules I suggested, Alonzo wouldn't count because he only played 58 games in 1998, but he played 46 out of 50 and 79 out of 82 the next two seasons (because I've taken Zo to use his 1998-2000 seasons when he was actually at his best), that's 92% and 96% of all possible games these two seasons, so I assume you don't have a problem with that, do you? :) 58 games out of 82 is almost 71% of all possible games, and it's almost 86% total games played during that three year span. Yeah, I think we can live with that. :)

I only really considered bigmen with my second pick, and there were only two candidates other than Zo for me. I'm worried about his passing, he only had 1.4 APG for that three year span and was a rather mediocre passer throughout his career, he was kind of a black hole inside, but he wasn't a selfish player. He just didn't have good passing ability. His scoring, rebounding and most importantly - DEFENSE were very good. His D was amazing. I think he was comfortably on peak Pippen's level in 1999 and 2000, arguably better. I like this pick, but I'm not going to lie - I wanted Ewing. I knew he was most likely going to be taken much earlier, way before my pick, and he actually was, so a guy who took Durant and Ewing should be very happy about it right now. :)

I have two WARRIORS on my team right now, both are guys who left a lot of heart on the floor and played extremely hard, night after night, and both are excellent two-way players.

I didn't expect things to slow down this early. We are in the 2nd round and already a lot of time passing before a pick is made

My two franchise players will have an average Offensive Rating of 120 for the seasons I'm going to pick :P

Can't wait to see my team matched up against one of the slower grind it out teams, it's going to be fun. I'd also love to play whitehops at some point to determine the best PG/PF duo :D

You love shooters, don't you? I've seen you are really high on both of these guys (and deservedly so).

If pre 1979/80 players were available, you would take West and/or an an injury prone center whose name I can't mention right now, wouldn't you? :) Or maybe Wilt, if he was available (I know I'd take Chamberlain instead of Kobe with my pick, if he was still on the board).

I really liked the fact that I would have an indisputable matchup advantage with those two, where as you could argue that even Hakeem would struggle guarding peak Shaq or Kareem due to the sheer size advantage those two held. 03 Duncan was just incredible, and LeBrons's ability to guard literally every position in some capacity would be very useful for team building. That said, I figured that Hakeem would allow me to pick anyone-he has near perfect portability IMO.

You seriously didn't even consider Shaq? I expected him to go top 2. I've seen plenty people argue his peak over MJ.

Yes, if we talk about one-year peak - he is right after MJ with Wilt 67 at number 2 spot for me and in peak project he was #2.

But talking about 3year stretch... he drop a little. I have him at 3-4 spot after MJ, Hakeem and tied with Lebron.

Lol some deadly combos already formed, and MJ, Shaq, Hakeem and Magic still haven't got the second star. This is fun.

If they played 75% of the current season, can they be eligible as well? We're pretty far into the season.

Well, I do appreciate the value of shooting to an offense (I mean, how can you watch the Blazers right now or the Spurs last year and not?), but Nash and Dirk hold a special place in my heart because I basically started watching the NBA in 2004, and until 2007-08 these guys and Kobe were the only truly entertaining and artistic players around.

Nah, Walton doesn't fit the purposes of this project. No 3-season stretch where he'd played enough games. West would be great though.

This was a tough, tough choice for me. I wanted to go small (not THAT small  ), but at this point, when even Alonzo is taken, i picked up the last eligible defensive monster in the middle who is a capable offensive player as well.
Dwight is like a contrast to Larry, an athletic freak, but pretty limited in terms of skill. Strange combination, isn't it? But he HAS TO be (somewhat) serious playing with Bird, they control the rebounds, could be the cornerstones of a great defense. And Dwight could flourish on the offensive end as well benefiting from Larry's assists, making lots of dunks and easy hook-shots. He is also a more dangerous offensive threat than some of the centers left on the board, so he should provide some additional space for outside shots.

Although, this duo from totally different eras still seems strange to me. Should be fun.

EDIT: and Dwight has a really nice 3-year prime (that matches up well with Ewing or Zo), so that also helps in this format.

I knew you would have taken him with LBJ.
Not mentioning names, I originally wanted to pick a perimter guy (who will definitely be gone in this round, I assume), but I "panicked", and grabbed Dwight. :o

Man, your duo (Bird + Dwight) is probably a bit better than mine (Kobe + Zo)...Great job. I think Dwight is probably slightly better than Zo, but we all know that Kobe/Dwight wouldn't work so I decided not to take him because I'd have people all over the thread criticizing me for bad team chemistry and I'd most likely lose in my first matchup, and it wouldn't even be close. Mourning and Howard are very similar as players (Dwight being the much better rebounder and MAYBE slightly better passer, Zo a bit better shotblocker and clearly better midrange shooter with more range), but the main difference between them lies in their personalities - Zo was always extremely serious and dedicated to the game, and we all know that Dwight really isn't such a fierce competitor. I think that any problems between Kobe and Zo in terms of purely basketball fit will be diminished by their personalities - both have/had tremendous drive to succeed and would do anything in order to win. Playing a triangle offense with Zo isn't a good idea, so I'd have to think about strategy a bit, but I'm sure they're a pretty solid core.

Coming back to your duo Thunder Dan - I LOVE it, and I think Bird and Dwight would be a tremendous success together. McHale, which is a bit of an unkown fact nowadays, was also kind of a goofball early on in his career and him and Bird managed to get along reasonably well.
That's probably my favorite tandem so far. :)

I'm really interested on who RSCD pairs up with Lebron. Can go a lot of different ways.
