Yup, with my second pick I'm taking Anthony Davis!

Image

His reputation has taken a hit with the Pelicans' awful season and some head-scratching coaching, but last year Davis put together legitimately one of the best offensive big man seasons ever. He's one of the most freakish athletes we've ever seen, basically any touch he gets in the paint on the pick and roll is a dunk. His off-ball motion is outstanding, and he and Magic are going to have a field day playing off each other. He's an amazing pick and roll partner due to his finishing and mid-range shooting and just general freakishness, he prevents help at the rim because he's one of the best lob threats ever, and he provides good face-up iso ability. He spaces the floor with his elite (45%) jumper. I think he's the perfect big next to Magic with his off-ball acumen and finishing prowess. And we've seen how ZMagic can thrive next to a smart, talented, athletic big man. Match made in heaven.

He's a lot younger and a lot less experienced than everyone else here, but he didn't back down from the Warriors last year and that matters a lot. He's a pure-blood competitor, and I absolutely see him rising to the challenge against all the talent he's gonna be up against.

It was but I kind of feel bad giving TheOnlyClutch a 1:30-7:30 time slot. I'm not sure if he was going to pick Oscar or not but I would like for him to have more time after this at least

Head scratching? Don't you mean something worse than the snake on Davis's face?

Davis was a guy that I didn't expect to see for a while and while i'm kind of surprised he was picked over another certain player, it makes sense with the guy already on the team.

Magic/AD is another really nice pair

fair enough, I guess we can keep going, especially since we've apparently got a few guys around.

Russell when he hears that Wilt and the Big O are teaming up to try and beat him...

Haha but seriously that's a great combo. Guess you pretty much have to take '67 Wilt to balance out Oscar's high volume, but that's probably the right Wilt anyway.

It'll definitely be tough because peak Oscar was a 22 fga player...

Clearly taking advantage of everyone else shying away from older guys though, that's two guys that were top 12 in the top 100 they did on this board :o

I already have the guy from the left side of this photo, now I'm pairing him with the other guy.

Karl Malone '98 goes to me.

That's cool I guess, I'm picking Manu Ginobili (2005) as my 2nd round pick.

Assume you're talking about Karl? He wasn't all that much on my radar to be honest. The geometry of the floor is one of my biggest concerns in putting together a team, and Davis' skill set just always made more sense. I just was really, really attracted to the putting a young, high motor, relentless rim attacker next to Magic. I think Davis' rim pressure is something Magic could really take advantage of to punish defenses, and the fast breaks these two would run, just holy ****. Malone is great in a lot of the same ways as Davis, but he's a bulkier dude who likes to hang out in the mid-post and things could get cramped with Magic preferring that zone as well. Davis to me seems far more comfortable hanging out on the baseline and under the rim waiting to pounce on dump off passes, lobs, and O-boards. And I like the idea of a small lineup with Magic at PF and Davis at C a lot more than a comparable one with Malone.

There were a few wings I might have taken over Davis, but I love the value I got with this pick and this leaves me still with a ton of directions I can go moving forward.

I wonder what do you guys think about my Jordan/Malone pairing? They combine for about a half of available FGAs (42.2, assuming I keep '90 version of Jordan and '98 version of Malone), but for instance '01 Shaq/Kobe averaged 41.4, so it's just slightly more than MJ/KM, and if I change MJ's version from '90 to '91, I'm already below Shaq/Kobe, at 40.6. Both Jordan and Malone are great passers, just like Shaq and Kobe, so I believe they could be extremely successful together.

Thoughts?

I agree about Wilt/Oscar. Tremendous collective all-around game. Your Russell/Barkley frontcourt is amazing, too. Perfect complement.
