EXPONENTIALLY IMPORTANT UPDATE #2
Not every game from Bill Russell's career in their entirety,
however, from the complete games that are available, I do have the following:
Most blocks in a game: 29 or 31 - NY Post: 30 blocks in the Mar. 19, 1966 game vs Knicks, probably not his only 30blk game
Most blocks in a half: 24(Sorry, I don't have the date yet)
Most blocks in a qtr: 12 - Nov. 1, 1963 at Phi: 4th qtr((in which he blocked 6 or 7 straight at 1 point, finally grabbed the ball and told his teammates "Guys, this **** has GOT to stop.")(I'm certain he blocked 12 in a quarter at least a couple other times, but I don't have the dates yet.))

How many games do you have, total, for blocked shots for Wilt Chamberlain?
How many blocks does he average, per game, career? Based on your findings?

1) This is a slightly complicated question because some of the totals I've posted are estimates based upon studying box scores,
others are from(for the time being anyway)newspaper articles, while the remaining ones are from another subscriber on this site who has direct access to many of these, and other games, in their entirety. Those are the most recent games I have blessed everyone here with that are absolute 100% foolproof.
But to answer your question in the most simplified manner possible:
Regular season games
59-60: 23 games 13.4bpg-until further notice
60-61: 23 games 17.3bpg-until further notice
61-62: 19 games 17.3bpg-until further notice
62-63: 8 games 14.4bpg-until further notice
63-64: 24 games 15.5bpg-until further notice
64-65: 24 games 16.0bpg-until further notice(most of these I have are 76er games)
65-66: 43 games 12.8bpg-until further notice
66-67: 36 games 13.1bpg-until further notice
67-68: 54 games 14.4bpg-until further notice
68-69: 52 games 11.7bpg-until further notice
69-70: 2 games 4.5bpg-until further notice
70-71: 19 games 6.6bpg-until further notice
71-72: 38 games 8.2bpg-until further notice
72-73: 82 games 5.6bpg-until further notice(Long Beach CA Press Examiner kept his blocks this season, maybe he had more)
Total regular season games: 447-until further notice
Playoff games
1960: I have all 9 games: 12.44bpg
1961: Don't have these yet, but I wouldn't be shocked if he had double-digit blocks in all 3 games
1962: 12 games: estimated 12.75bpg-until further notice
1963: missed playoffs for only time in his NBA career
1964: 12 games: estimated 10.2bpg-until further notice
1965: 10 games: estimated 10.9bpg-until further notice
1966: 5 games: Don't have these yet, but like '61, wouldn't be shocked if he had double-digit blocks in every game
1967: I have all 15 games: 11.6bpg
1968: Right now I have the 6 game NYK series: 10.3bpg(I believe he averaged less in the Boston series)
1969: 18 games: I only have a few so far, but I would estimate, until further notice, between 9.5-10bpg
1970: I have all 18 games: 7.7bpg
1971: For the 12 games, all I have now is newspaper reports, which would calculate to between 6-6.5bpg
1972: I don't have all the 15 games, but right now I would say his average was between 8.5-9bpg
1973: I don't have all the games yet, but I believe his playoff average was between 7-7.5bpg
2) As far as how many he averaged for his career, at this point I'm pretty certain he averaged between 10-10.5bpg,
maybe somewhat less in the playoffs because the pace was somewhat slower overall, except for some seasons.
Be sure & check back as often as possible, I post new stuff on here whenever I believe necessary,
Blessings...

Hello Sir,
How many games do you have for the playoffs, logged, entirely? I ask because I'm making a case for Wilt as the GOAT. His greatest skill, arguably, was blocking shots, and it wasn't even tracked during his entire career. Neither were steals or turnovers, of course.
He gets absolutely routed statistically as a result.
PS: Thank you SO much for this, and for all the amazing (very hard) work you've done here!!! It's greatly appreciated!

Man, you need to start your own thread to get full credits for your research and compile everything to neat package you can update. You are going great work.

I haven't collected as many games for Russell, compared with Wilt, however, especially based upon what I've unearthed so far from the sources available to me, and what Russ himself said in various interviews, etc, I'm convinced it was between 10-10.5bpg.

1) If you'd like to see more of my work, check out www.nbastats.net, & take note of the "unofficial" data section.
2) I have numerous personal files which contain similar information that I continuously update as much as possible.

First of all, I'm truly blessed to provide the data to you, and everyone else who chooses to study & analyze it.
Secondly, yes, it certainly IS very hard & exhausting work, as you probably can tell already by the data I've provided.
Thirdly, I'm not so certain that Wilt gets routed entirely because his defensive stats were unofficial(as well as off & def rebounds).
Maybe in some circles it's true, and I hate to even suggest it, but I'm convinced it's lack of championship rings, candor, bluntness, etc.
Fourthly, for Wilt's playoff game blocks that I've collected from newspaper articles & the other subscriber to this site who has complete game footage, currently my game total would be:
114 games

Ok, so, over at http://www.nbastats.net/ I found a file that has unofficial blocked shot data for 408 games of Wilt's career.
Wilt averaged 14.0 blocks per game, career.
Wilt averaged 14.0 blocks per game, career.

I don't think anyone on this forum has the access to countless Wilt games, including whole 1967/68 season. I am in touch with probably everyone on this forum who tries to find new oldschool NBA games. I think I know the poster you're talking about, but he doesn't have the access to NBA archives.

Like it or not, I'm NOT revealing the source. That aint my God-dang job. I'm tasked on here to inspire people, either on this forum, and/or those who happen upon this forum via their own research, such as me 1 1/2 years ago, with new data that is largely unavailable to the general public.70sFan wrote:mstat13shuh wrote:You'd be sadly mistaken here.
