But he is a good enough shooter to not be a reliability.
He is a good enough creator [4 assists per game] to generate points as a 3rd playmaker.
He has absolutely crushed all the +/- data we have since 2019.

When you've got LeBron James on your team you don't need a lot of playmaking from your point guard. Which is why I'm going for someone who is a threat with or without the ball in his hands. I'm getting a decent secondary playmaker, a solid defender and most of all one of the best 3-point shooters in the league (currently shooting 40% on 8.5 attempts per game). It looks like the advanced stats also show him as one of the most valuable players so far in this season. On a per minute basis EPM has him 13th, RAPTOR 9th and LEBRON 29th. Because of his reliability he shines even more in the wins added categories of these stats. EPM has him tied 4th with Giannis, behind only Curry, Jokic and KD. RAPTOR is equally bullish as they have him tied 4th with Gobert, behind only Jokic, Curry and Giannis and even just ahead of KD. LEBRON is less enthusiastic but even there he is in a 4-way tie for 11th.

I'm going with an amazing fit next to LeBron and while not the biggest name, statistically he is a huge steal at this pick:

Fred VanVleet

David Griffin should learn from a REAL GM what kind of PG you should put next to an athletic freak who's a crazy lob threat, unstoppable in transition and who also likes to handle the ball.
Going for Lonzo Ball.

You wouldn't be the only one. He's been underrated his entire career.

I think he's a great 4th/6th best player in a good team, but you picked him 3rd, that's may issue.
anyway, let's see how you will complete the team, that's the point of this exercise.
maybe what he brings is rare enough that it wouldn't be available later

At this point in the draft fit is going to become a more prevalent issue than talent imo. Just going BPA every round is going to leave you with a team that is unlikely to work together (more than likely with huge holes on defense and a too many cooks situation on offense).

I do think the Caruso pick is a bit interesting as I actually doubt he'd have been picked up by Baski's next go around and in terms of profile I see two players still on the board who can provide similar impact. Caruso seems like a great backcourt mate to Booker though and you just never know when there is going to be a run on certain types of players.

Bit of a gamble here, but a young guy I really like and think fits well (probably would've taken Lonzo if he'd been here) - Tyrese Haliburton

I was thinking of going for him in R4, but what he brings is indeed rare enough that he might've been snatched up before then. It's a bit of a gamble but there's still a lot of talent on the board I believe.

Another bit of gamble depending on how others see him, but not letting the talent drop any further, at #50 - Ben Simmons (I'm pretty sure he's available to draft right?)

Alex Michael Caruso

Wanted to speak to this:

You do you. You have a vision for your team that means you covet a guy others think is a bit of a reach, consider holding off for another round if you think you can...but don't regret getting your guy.

I'll also say that when there's a guy you like who you might rank overall further down, but who is singular in how he's seen, while a ranked player list may have him lower, he's probably more likely to get plucked by others for whom he is salient as well.

I'll flat out say that if Caruso had been available for my picks, I'd have seriously considered him. Don't know if I'd have picked him at that point, but I might have.

I seriously considered Simmons but I saw far more alternatives available for him than for Turner. The dream would have been to land both somehow.

With your other players this is a very nice pick. Minimizes his weakness and makes good use of his strengths. Plus Simmons is way more talented than #50. Really nice
