Fine. I don't agree with him, nor do I respect his arguments either. Can we move on now?

Why should I respect you guys? You guys do nothing but contradict your values and I am basing this off of the RPOY Project.

05-06 - Wade
06-07 - Duncan
07-08 - Garnett

08-09 - Lebron
09-10 - Lebron

So let me get this straight for 05-08 you guys valued winning since those were the best players on championship teams right?. Then in 08-10 you start to value individual dominance instead of winning so you have Lebron on there?

Hilarious. Stick to one script and then maybe someone will take you and this pathetic of a list seriously.

I'll let people who actually participated in the RPOY project speak to that, if they want to bother to do so.

But I'd note that being the best player in the league, including in the postseason, is pretty helpful when one is pursuing a championship.

I am just letting you know why I don't think they have a lot of credibility.

Kevin Garnett at #13 or even in the top 15 is a joke on any list.

I voted for him higher than that. And I stated my reasons, although I was piggybacking on other people's evaluations of his not-so-great-team-success Minnesota years.

What's the guideline for when a vote goes to a run off? Any time nobody gets a majority? When the top vote getter is no closer to a majority than he is the the #2 vote getter? Something else?

That's for the list. Rules can be looser for the nomination, because if a guy gets nominated a round or two too early it probably won't change anything on the final list.

By the way, props on the photos! Gilmore is an eye-opener. Pippen is cool. Etc.

I hated the Kareem one, because it was one of the rare times a black guy really DID look like a monkey. But on average they've been outstanding.

Fencer reregistered wrote:So what did GilmoreFan finally get waived for? Was it just his usual pain-in-the-butt behavior going on too long, or was there something that was uncharacteristically egregious even by his standards?

I don't miss him at all from the RealGM 100 discussions, because he kept trying to make it a competition among posters rather than players. But I don't happen to have seen any one thing that looked like it was the waive trigger.

I kind of enjoyed Gil's rants, myself. And he was passionate. But not having seen all his posts, I'll trust the mods saw stuff that made it necessary.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

People get banned at RealGM for the most minor of things. I was in the Army for 7 years: you can talk back to an Army NCO in a warzone more than you can talk back to a mod here. It's funny, in a douchebag way.

But in the Army, everybody who talks back does so in a darkly humorous way.

At least, that's what the movies portray, and we know that movies are 100% accurate in their portrayals of real military life. ;)

Actually GilmoreFan was just asked not to post in the Top100 thread . . . he then wrote a PM asking us to remove him and all the posts he had ever made from the board and I forwarded it to the head admins who presumably did what he had asked.

For what it is worth, I have had more complaints from posters on this board about GilmoreFan than about every other poster combined since I started modding here 4 years ago . . . and he did have some things to say (unlike, say, a certain unnamed poster who always posted about every player that played before 1970 that they played only against slow white guys and couldn't star in the NBDL today including Wilt)

This board has a rep as very lenient about posters, King Log rather than King Stork, but we did decide to make a much more aggressive effort to keep replies calling other posters names out of the top 100 thread. That includes on this thread for those who haven't figured it out so . . . squeaky clean is the name of the game here, the refs are calling everything.

That all makes sense. Thanks. However, his posts weren't actually removed:

He asked, didn't mean anyone said yes, lol.

For what it's worth, I'm almost positive that he wasn't only here for 7 weeks. There was another poster named SinglepurposeAC this spring who had the exact same posting style, same player preferences, same penchant for making ridiculing sigs with similar quotes from similar people (me included). In one debate with GilmoreFan I even referenced/continued a debate that I had previously had with SinglePurposeAC in which I attributed his points to GilmoreFan, and GilmoreFan didn't deny it was him (to be fair, he didn't confirm it either). And the two also had a very similar extremely high-density of posts followed by being waived in a short period.

Anyway, not that this really matters in the big scheme of things. But I seriously doubt that those 7 weeks were the only time that we've seen GilmoreFan...and I also seriously doubt that him being waived means that we won't see him around here again at some point, just posting under a different name.

My google search of SinglepurposeAC brought up this: viewtopic.php?f=64&t=1100643 Definitely GF in arguing style, anti Kobe stuff, etc.

It looks as if half the posters in that thread were waived ...

But I don't doubt your premise. I was thinking the same thing when I posted, given that GilmoreFan seemed to have a lot of familiarity with and emotional investment in the patterns of this forum for a guy who was allegedly new here.

By the way, it's OK to call me "Fencer" for all purposes.

That was my original user name here. The account got fubared, so I reregistered. But since there's a rule against doing so, meant to prevent deception, I did so in the least deceptive way I could think of.

A mod PMed me; I pointed out that I would be happy to go back to the old user name; and that's where it was left.

Some people just aren't very good at internetting. It's an art really.
