Love the shout out but I'd have to side with Breanna Stewart over A'ja. They're certainly the Big 2 of this generation though. I did a thing recently just thinking about the players with greatest careers born in every decade. Here's what I came up with:

1990s: Nikola Jokic & Breanna Stewart
1980s: LeBron James & Maya Moore
1970s: Tim Duncan & Tamika Catchings
1960s: Michael Jordan & Cynthia Cooper
1950s: Magic Johnson & Uljana Semjonova

Went further back too, but would have to look up what I said for women from earlier eras.

Thanks for the share.

Am highly anticipating "2000s: Victor Wembanyama & Caitlin Clark" some time down the line

At the top of your head, do you have similar grouping for M/W sides of Tennis?

Let's see:

1990s: Dominic Thiem & Simona Halep
1980s: Novak Djokovic & Serena Williams
1970s: Pete Sampras & Monica Seles
1960s: Ivan Lendl & Steffi Graf
1950s: Bjorn Borg & Martina Navratilova
1940s: John Newcombe & Margaret Court
1930s: Rod Laver & Maureen Connolly
1920s: Pancho Gonzales & Althea Gibson
1910s: Don Budge & Maureen Osborne
1900s: Rene Lecoste & Helen Wills
1890s: Bill Tilden & Suzanne Lenglen

1990s remarkably weak.

Been watching 08-10 Lakers playoff games lately just for fun.

So impressed by Lamar Odom - man he would thrive in today's game

They feel so Warriors-y at times with Kobe's absurd shot making forcing doubles on the perimeter and then Odom and Pau alternating as the short roll/middle of the floor decision maker

Used to watch some of his videos back in the day but something about them never hooked me, haven't watched him in like a decade. Whatever you think of thinking basketballs analysis, he has a compelling style that makes watching and even rewatching interesting.

Playing defense from behind would be terrible in man I think. Though it might be useful in zone coverage which is what I think he’s getting at in this video.

It might be interesting as a thing to do randomly once in a blue moon but the main thing here is prerotating, all he’s really doing is creating a situation where everyone’s attacking a bad close out it’s so dumb lol

Watched a bit of 06 Spurs vs Mavs Game 7 last night (I love that NBA League Pass has all these old games). Couple thoughts:

Dirk was abusing Duncan lol. Kept getting Bowen switched off and going to work

Duncan on the other side was putting fouls on everybody and pounding in the post - this was definitely pre "beautiful game" era

When the Mavs put Dirk at center and spaced out around him it weirdly reminded me a bit of Giannis on offense - isolate around the perimeter, force doubles and generate open 3s

Mavs had nobody who could stay in front of Tony Parker - he was still pretty quick in his later years but I didn't realize just how blazing fast young Tony was

Josh Howard - whatever happened to this guy? He looked fantastic next to Dirk

That's the effect of the co-goat spacer and arguable GOAT offensive big on your side :D

Bucks saw the reports about Lillard to the Raptors and started sweating the Giannis free agency pitch.

Hope the new coaching staff is able to successfully get Giannis off-ball. If he can play off Lillard properly, that has the potential to be the overall most devastating pnr tandem in league history by virtue of Giannis providing so much more defensive value than Malone or Amar’e.

I second that ^ I’m curious to see Giannis as a “2-O 1-D” archetype - and how he plays in that role.

I don't see the problem here. Lillard has played with plenty of different players who've needed shots over the years. I imagine neither he nor Giannis will average 30 ppg this upcoming season, but saving a little for the playoffs couldn't hurt.

The real issue will be whether not Lillard can stay healthy, and how they're going to handle the inversion of defensive quality at the point.

I do not think Giannis needs to play more off-ball for the tandem to be good, but I think that is what is needed for them to be maximised as a team.

I also will enjoy people freaking out when the Bucks fail to be supremely good in the regular season. These are all playoff moves. Jrue is an excellent player who has been maybe the best true second option (i.e. not a co-first) in the league with Milwaukee. He also has been a weak option on offence for the team every postseason. If he does not stay on the Blazers, would be nice to see him go somewhere he can be a true third option scorer.

Some parallels between this move and Oscar to the Bucks. Both elite offensive engines towards the end of their careers joining a world class two way big man in Milwaukee after lacking playoff success in their prior stint. Some major differences too, of course, like Giannis/Kareem being at quite different points of their careers (and Giannis already having a ring).
