doubtful. Duncan and Shaq (3/4) were the man. Kobe only has that title once (twice now). Maybe above Shaq. He needs 6 to pass Duncan.

Kobe's only going to go past Magic as the all-time greatest Laker if he wins six rings. He has to do that at the very least.

But seriously, look at this potential career if he wins a ring this year (and not assuming he wins another). This is assuming he plays 20 years and another 3-4 at a high level.

35,000 regular season points
7,000 playoff points
1x NBA MVP
2x NBA Finals MVP
5x NBA champion
18x All-Star
3x All-Star MVP
12x All-NBA 1st Team
12x All-NBA Defensive 1st Team
25/5/5 on 45%/35%/85%

This would undoubted be the greatest player ever for any franchise besides LA or Boston, probably until the NBA folds.

Honestly, I don't see why you wouldn't put Kobe into the top 5-6 if he wins another championship this year. Even though all four championships have come along with having a quality big man by his side it's not like it's his fault for having such a good team. Seriously, I would want the best team I could get so I could win a ring too. I wouldn't go to managment and tell them to build x,y and then leave out z.

Either way, Kobe would be up there with Jordan, Magic, and Bird as far as guards/forwards go since he no doubt has a game which is just as polished if not more so than those three. Plus, the Killer Instinct is what sitll seperates him today and is the reason he is so often compared to those three (especially Jordan).

Yeah he'll never get 6 rings.

Ball Boy if you only want to go by numbers: Kobe will be tied for 14.

If you go by that logic, he would be better than Duncan. But Robert Horry has Kobe beat.

I'm a Kobe Fan, but as of right now with his 4th ring, I'd put him around #10-11 all time. Considering he was the man in only one of his four rings thats all I think he deserves at this point. If he gains his 5th this year, i'll put him around #7, more or less tied with Tim Duncan. If he gets his 6th, i'll put him in the top 5.

I agree once you reach the top 12 or so, its hard to rank players as the rankings can be pretty subjective. Most rings, Most mvps, best career resume, best peak/prime, etc are all ways you could rank these guys differently.

The way I see it though, it has to be based on basketball talent. Which cannot be quantified so you'll never be able to establish a pure ranking. The thing with rings, resume and mvps is that circumstances must be taken into account. These players all played in different generations and sometimes with different rules. Not to disrespect Kobe, but if he played in the same generation as Jordan, the amount of rings, MVPs etc might look differently. Thats why I think talent should take precidence over everything else.

And really, this goes to show how overrated Kobe Bryant has become. Top 10-15 is banworthy now? lmao. What do you guys want to hear? It's hell of a lot more reasonable than Kobe homers who put him in front of Shaq, Duncan, Hakeem, and Bird, that's for sure.

You are seriously telling me that you would rank him 10-15 after having won five titles as either 1A or 1B?

He was not 1A or 1B with Shaq. Shaq was clearly the best player, and it wasn't that close.

Sure, Shaq was the best player. That's why he was hitting all those clutch free throws at the end of those games.

Oh, wait.

Clutch free throws make a player the best player on a team?

Do you even think Kobe was 1B in 99-00?

Yeah, Kobe Bryant was better than Shaq because he was capable of hitting clutch free throws down the stretch of games. And while we're at it Allan Houston, Reggie Miller, and Ben Gordon are all better than Shaq for that same reason. Seriously now, come on.

No, it means that Shaq was not dominating in every facet of the game, like Jordan did. He needed a player like Bryant to three peat. Therefore, I give Bryant more credit than just being a sidekick like Scottie Pippen.

I never said that Kobe was better than Shaq. You need to read thoroughly before you post your responses.

No, but you implied it.
