Moonbeam wrote:Vote for Paul Arizin. Despite Ginobili likely having an edge on a per possession basis, Arizin's advantage in minutes and durability give him more value for me. This shows up in my weighted prime win shares per game metric, in which Arizin is way ahead in the regular season (25 to Ginobili's 67) and slightly ahead in the playoffs (43 to 44).

Can you post those rankings in the top 100 thread? Thanks!

I won't be back until after midnight tonight so hopefully we can get a tiebreaker up before then.

Wow, this is awkward.

Runoff Vote: Manu Ginobili

I'm basically at the point now where I'll switch my vote "strategically" pretty easily simply because I don't feel that strongly in general, and well, my guy, wasn't getting any traction. Totally bizarre though that it happens that the very thread I decide to give up on Ginobili for a bit, he gets traction.

So I've got to switch. Arizona's a very nice choice, but realistically when I think about him in today's game I'm merely hoping he can be like Ginobili. Granted my most daydreamy hopes involve him doing it for longer minutes and thus he'd surpass Manu, but I'd consider it a win just to match him. With that as my standard optimism for the guy I have to give Ginobili the nod in the direct comparison.

You might be right about Luisetti. I thought (had read at some point) that Kenny Sailors was credited with the first jump-shot in a college game way back in 1940. Luisetti would have been doing so in the late 30's, though (although description of what he was doing sounds more like a what I might call a "modified set shot", rather than a true jumper).
I've also just read something (wiki, fwiw) about a John Miller Cooper---who I'd previously never heard of---who may be the original "inventor" of the jump-shot, and may have been using it in college games as far back as the early 1930's.

That, I believe, makes it 5-to-4 in favor of Manu (that's counting Moonbeam's vote).
In that case, do you (as a mod) have the authority/ability to start a #63 thread? (rather than wait another 3-4 hours for penbeast0 to do it? Some of us don't have lives, after all  )
