Impressive. Futile, but impressive. Denver was down 23 at the half and 26 going into the 4th, so they had nothing to lose but to let Russ go.

Yea I see what you mean, stats can be misleading at times.

And it brought him all the way up to 39.4% FG on the season ;)

This begs the question I've been thinking about for years.....IS Russell Westbrook the worst shooter in NBA history (with a long career)?

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1MHgVcFN5YIPcOMw0o862Tt1FVmm0oaZMQDOTM9N9cMk/edit?gid=174375588#gid=174375588

Go to "Career TS Added" Tab at the bottom. And "82 G Average" Tab.

Image

Note: Westbrook is at -1219.8 TS Added (worst ever). He's also played 1178 games, for an average for -79.2 TS Added per 82 games (third worst ever).

And I have zero doubt FG Added is the worst in NBA history on a rate basis (per 82 G) or a total/summative basis.

He's pretty rough. At his best, he barrels into the lane and creates well in volume for others, so there's that. But he's always had issues with finishing actual shots just about everywhere on the court.

Patrick Beverly is most famously an idiot, though, so there's that to consider.

Tsherkin, how many players have had a full season where they were top 3 in PPG, RBS/G, PTS/G? Jokic is 3rd, 2nd, 2nd at the moment.

How many players have had a 5 season span where they were top 5 in the same three categories? (Jokic is, currently, last 5 seasons).

Thanks for your insight and knowledge!!! :D

I don't know; did Oscar ever hit the top 3 in rebounding? I'd be a bit surprised if he had. Otherwise, I can't think of anyone who came close to that. Wilt was scoring a lot less when he was pumping out assists, after all. He smashed rebounds and points, but he was only relevant in APG in 67 and 68 and he wasn't scoring nearly as much then.

By points per game rank, rebounds per game rank, and assists per game rank:

    2017 Westbrook was 1/10/3, and 2018 Westbrook was 7/10/1.

    1966 Wilt was 1/1/7, 1967 Wilt was 5/1/3, and 1968 Wilt was 4/1/2.

    1962 Oscar was 5/9/1.

    1959 Baylor was 4/3/9, 1961 Baylor was 2/4/8, 1963 Baylor was 2/5/6, and 1965 Baylor was 4/9/8.

From 1964-68, Wilt was 1*/1/4.

* might trail Oscar but both averaged 30.6 points per game over this period

So no one, but the expected two were close and Westie was closer than I realized, nice.

Sad it had to come in a loss, but that's also a wild, Wilt-style triple-double with the 20 rebounds.
