Having watched Plan 9 from Outer Space, Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers 2, and Sharknado, as well as several mindnumbingly predictable chick flicks where seemingly normal women inexplicably fall for Mathew McConaghy or some such thing, I have to say that the worst movie I ever saw was "Baby Blue Marine."

It was a bit of 70s psychedelia where a mellow hippie type beats the Marine Corps indoctrination system by meditating on fields of flowers, or something like that. To be fair, I didn't see it all as I fell asleep despite the fact that it was a first date . . . and of course, after that I didn't get much of anywhere in that relationship either. But, I remember it being truly, memorably, boring.

I'm soooooo jelly.

trex_8063 wrote:I propose a new list category: the 10 WORST movies you've ever seen.

Word.

The two that instantly come to mind are Crank 2: Hight Voltage and Ghostrider (can you believe there's a sequel!). Also one of my Ex's made me watch John Tucker Must Die but actually I laughed too much to probably put it on the list. I hate myself for it but just can't do it.

Beyond that...I really try and avoid bad movies like the plague. Unless you count watching the Power Ranger movie when I was like 7.

Oh, I'd also definitely add John Wick to my list. That movie made it so that I will never, ever consult Rotten Tomatoes or Metactritc ever again. Yeah, rating movies isn't a perfect science, and Rotten uses a simple "1 up 1 down" algo, but my god. Just awful.

If I watched Batman & Robin again I'm sure I could add it to the list, everyone seems to say it was terrible, but I was 10, and highly entertained. Arnold was an awesome Mr. Freeze to 10-year old me.

John Wick would probably end up on my worst movies list. Went to see it after reading good reviews and posters on general OT Board raved about it. All around terrible movie.

Howard the Duck is another horrible movie that comes to mind:

I'm told by one of my students (the one who put Sharknado on the DVD player in our lunchroom) that there is a Sharknado 3 in the works :clown:

Sharknado came to mind, but I didn't use it because I actually only watched the first 5 minutes or so (I'm pretty sure I got the gist of it), and was trying to use only movies I've actually watched at least most of.
For those who are unfamiliar with the movie, what do you get if you cross sharks with a tornado? Yup: Sharknado. You got a pretty good idea of what you're in for with that.

I also saw part of Black Sheep, unfortunately not the one with Chris Farley, but rather this one:

It was pretty awesomely bad.

I was about to And1 this post until I got here. You crazy man.

While there are some truly terrible ones in there, as well as a few popular groups which I also cannot stand (Matchbox 20), my jaw just about hit the floor for some on this list. Most notably: the Beatles, The Who, Led Zeppelin; and to a lesser degree picks like Coldplay, Bob Marley, AC/DC, Pink Floyd, among others.

There's just no accounting for taste. How can we trust a mad man who in his "favorite albums of all time" list had Prince occupying two of the top three spots?........The defense rests. :D

Haha! I usually catch some flak for revealing my distaste for musical dinosaurs, but it's all just opinion. For the most part, I at least have respect for those artists you listed (aside from Coldplay), but they just aren't for me. I've never liked classic rock at all, or rootsy music, folk, country, etc. For me, it's all about funk, synth funk, synth pop, post-punk, glam rock, italo disco and electropop.

I'm pretty active on music forums and as such I've made an effort with music that is well outside of my comfort zone.

On occasion I've found some albums that I've really loved:

Tom Waits - Swordfishtrombones
The Kinks - The Kinks Are Village Green Preservation Society (review)
Sufjan Stevens - Illinois (review)

But often it's ended in disaster:

The Beatles - I've listened to Revolver (review), Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band (review), and Abbey Road and have not liked any of it. I really dislike their vocals and what I feel to be hamfisted attempts an anthemizing. I have a lot of respect for their cultural importance, though, and I appreciate them more than (Oasis).

The Who - Classic rock to the core, and all of it annoys me. I've only listened to Who's Next (review), but I've heard several other singles as well. They bore me to the core.

I haven't given Led Zeppelin as many listens, but again, their style is well outside of what I like. I know that they have good musical chops, but so many of their ideas were more or less directly lifted from more unheralded acts that it would feel a bit dirty listening to them.

I have absolutely no respect whatsoever for Coldplay. Their music is so offensively... inoffensive, and it is so tepid that it just gets absorbed into the wallpaper while leaving a beige stain. Plus, they sucked all the life out of one of my favorite ever songs in Kraftwerk's "Computer Love" in their song "Talk", so I'll never forgive them! My (review) for A Rush of Blood to the Head says it all, really.

I have respect for Bob Marley, but I really don't like reggae, and as his music was painfully ubiquitous when I was in college, my distaste for it grew.

AC/DC is responsible for the worst album I've ever heard in Back in Black (review). Well, that or (Il Divo's debut album). My only "regret" about moving to Australia is that it made me more likely to suffer through their songs.

I like a lot of art rock and glam rock (Roxy Music, David Bowie, and Brian Eno are legends to me), but Pink Floyd never did it to me. Maybe it's the voices - they just sound so bland in comparison. The only full album I've heard is The Dark Side of the Moon (review), and I've considered exploring early stuff like Piper at the Gates of Dawn, but it's not on my to-do list.

As for Prince, he totally DESERVES my top 2 album spots! I can't begin to describe how much his music has meant for me over the years (my screen name comes from an outtake "Moonbeam Levels"), but I'll leave my (review) for 1999 here as well, since I'm posting lots of reviews.

I'll never claim that I'm some authority on music, other than on my own taste. I've become very good friends with people who love a lot of music that I despise (e.g. The Beatles) and I've learned to appreciate how people express their emotional connection to music as much if not more than sharing similar taste to someone, though that can be fun, too.

More updates on our startup JV basketball team. After 2 50 point blowouts, we fought out a won last night on an opp's home court. Biggest differences: (1) Opps played man defense -- we can handle that, we don't play enough like a team to handle a good zone yet, and (2) our "ringer" star (9th grader but is the 3rd guard on varsity; our varsity coach lets us borrow him for non-conflicting games) was hitting 3's and anticipating for steals like he was Mookie Blayock. So, everything is good this morning!

Wednesday we go back to reality with our low budget 60 HS kid school going up against the other big money sports juggernaut private school in our area (the first was our game #1). But there are signs of hope. :-)

Interesting article that someone just shared on the APBRmetrics board:

Now that's the difference between first and last place.

No, but I started Arrested Development on Netflix recently and so far it's been pretty good. Would recommend.

Recommend the 2014 movie "November Man" with Pierce Brosnan. Highly entertaining.
