If Melo plays within his remaining skillset he’s an asset no doubt.

LeBron 1-15 from 3 the last 2 games. You can tell he's overthinking now.

I often wonder what LeBron's shooting would look like if he either stayed in or was drafted by Miami. In the regular season I believe he's only shot over 40% from mid-range 5 times in his career and 4 of those 5 seasons were consecutive whilst at Miami from 2011-2014. He had his best and 2nd best 3 point shooting seasons there as well in addition to his highest average 3PT% and FT% there.

Edit: His post game peaked in Miami as well ._. idk wtf happened after he left Miami because he somehow became a less well rounded scorer but a better shot creator. He became a better off the dribble 3 point shooter circa 2017 and got even better at the thing he was already ATG at in finishing (it's not just a result of spacing either), but seemingly lost his other developed skills.
You said to me “I will give you scissor seven fine quality animation".

You left then but you put flat mediums which were not good before my scissor seven".

What do you take me for, that you treat somebody like me with such contempt?

Giving credit where its due Westbrook and Carmelo have given mostly decent to good net contribution for a while. Carmelo even did it on defense tonight. Rockets were terrible though and that 4th quarter was awful. Lakers also have a versatility problem on the bench. Their depth is the same guy five times over. Westbrook also needs to stay focused on both ends. There are no down possessions for guards in the modern Nba. It's not like the big guys who get to camp down low.

LBJ has often been off in the 3 points during his career after missing a few games, that's nothing new .... He was great in the 3 points range before his 2 games

That nutty Westbrook fan from the GB had me looking up their DRTG on/offs. Might as well leave this here.
Through the first 7 games.

Carmelo -4.1
Bazemore +7.6
AD +2.1
Jordan +3.5
Monk -1.1
Westbrook -5.4
Lebron +0.9
Dwight -1.8

I know Westbrook has been part of some trainwreck lineups but he has no excuse to be in the negative if he plays the first 6 minutes of the first and 3rd quarter with 4 starters in the positive. Thing is he's part of why those lineups are trainwrecks defensively. He brought the Wizards defense with him. I seriously can't yet tell if the Lakers are title contenders yet or just playoff contenders. .

westbrook is better at on ball defense than he is at off ball and is still fairly strong

always have thought playing him on wings or having him switch into bigger players would be useful. kinda like harden does

It's moot because he doesn't use any of those talents the right way. Once an on-ball assignment passes off the ball Westbrook completely leaves him to go do his own thing or lurk in the paint. If the ball makes it way back to the on-ball assignment Westbrook is now 15m away having to scramble his tail off to get back in front of him. And that's assuming he doesn't get pumpfaked out of the picture. I'm actually starting to believe he doesn't have it in him to be a positive defender because on-ball and offball situations don't take place in a vacuum.

He's especially prone to regression when he's out there alone and allowed to run the offense. That's when he really stops trying and takes rebound hunting to another level and also how I suspect he ended up the only starter with a negative on/off Drtg through the first 7 games. Stuff like this is why I think OKC made a mistake accommodating his excesses when he was still a young pup. Now even his biggest strengths are marred with major flaws.

Tbf Carmelo is scoring efficiently enough to offset it and he looked good on both ends in the last game so he might have net neutral defense buried somewhere. Actually seemed to take it personal that the Rockets were targeting him. Realistically I still carry the sneaky feeling he's just Enes Kanter mk2, an amazing end efficient scorer who couldn't see the floor in the postseason no matter how good he scored. On one hand I think AD/lebron will make him playable but on another they couldn't make Harrell and Mcgee playable so that might be asking a lot. Only a player can make himself playable in the playoffs.
