Are ABA players eligible?

So do we get 6 hours to make a pick now? Is there a particular beginning/end time for each round (eg. 8:30pm EST for the first pick) or does the counter continue even if we have completed one round in a day already?

We'll see how it goes. I'm open to suggestions from everybody (Hibachi's thinking that we should get a much longer window for selections was definitely correct, but I thought 12-hour window would be too long). Speaking from experience (as I've already participated in two or three similar drafts), people tend to be excited enough for the first few rounds that they tend to make their selections pretty quickly, so in the beginning, it shouldn't be a problem.

Selection: 2013 LeBron

I know you want to get the draft done as soon as possible so things don't fall off, but I'd be more concerned about that happening in the writeups / voting stage. I think at least 6 hours is more than reasonable for each selection, and would side towards a little longer depending on how it goes.

I want to build my franchise around...

Larry Bird!

To me you can argue that he is THE player for this era. As we talk about Steph & Draymond and pontificate about how well suited they are for era, consider how many strengths of each of the two players Larry Bird had.

I'm going to have fun with him!

1989-90 version, because that version would be best-suited for today's game - he shot 37.6% on 3.0 attempts from beyond the arc that year, in the regular season.

Three guys already passed on him? I'm not gonna make the same mistake. :D

With the five pick of the NBA draft, Narigo selects 1964 Wilt Chamberlain from the San Francisco Warriors.

Wilt was a great rim protector, scorer and a great passer for his position.

I thought lilroddyb's suggestion about the draft format made sense, but I just didn't want to complicate it, so that all of you guys can easily understand what system we'll be using.

You can draft any player you want, starting with the 1954-55 season. Today's rules (just in case someone wondered).

6-hour windows for one poster's selection. Obviously the quicker, the better, though (so try to make your selections as quickly as you can, guys).

When you make your selection, please quote the next person on the list, so that he'll have a notification.

2015-16 season players are allowed. We are drafting specific seasons of every player - example: 2013 Player X stands for his 2012-13 season.

I would just like to remind you guys that you shouldn't mention any players who haven't been selected yet. You can discuss here, but only about already selected players.

Players selected so far:

1. MisterHibachi - Shaquille O'Neal (2000)
2. Clyde Frazier - LeBron James (2013)
3. Doctor MJ - Larry Bird (year to be specified)
4. Quotatious - Michael Jordan (1990)
5. Narigo - Wilt Chamberlain (1964)

Off topic, when's the next time we are gonna do something like this? I'm love the concept but I hate that I have like no free time to do it

We've been doing an all-time fantasy draft every year since I've been on RealGM (this is the first one where I'm the commissioner, though), so I guess we can expect another one next year.

Good picks all, I especially like the somewhat bold Bird pick at #3, shows some team building vision, but I expected as much from Doctor MJ.

Lots of exciting talent still on the board though!

Just checking, are we doing pure snake ABAB ABAB or ABBA ABAB (where the guy at 16 picks at 17 and 33)

I'm in the middle so doesn't make much odds for me either way, but strikes me as a bit of an advantage for the top picks in snake format (as having the best #1 and the best #3 is a big edge)

We're doing pure snake. Last person of the first round, LA Bird, will have back-to-back picks (#16 and 17).

'64 Wilt is definitely an interesting choice, it might be difficult to build from that but he certainly has a lot of gravity both offensively and defensively

It's been 6 hours, do I pick now or are we waiting?

Heh. This is one of my favorite parts of a project like this: Where we all get to play Chris Berman analyzing each others' teams as they are gradually revealed. I was going to wait a bit, but might as well start discussing:

-I think the Shaq pick at #1 was the wise choice. In my experience while people tend to state that they believe Jordan's peak was GOAT, when they actually analyze teams, no player resonates more than Shaq. Had I had the #1 pick I'd have still taken Bird, but I think Shaq gives you the best chance of being voted the best team.

-I was surprised Jordan fell below 2nd. While I passed him up too, there's no doubt that Q got a steal at the 4th slot. Here's where I'll note that in the all-time leagues I was first a part of 10 years ago on this board, I picked Jordan 2nd in one, and TrueLAfan picked him 1st in the other. Neither team "won" but I thought both easily could have, especially TrueLAfan's team.

-I'm very curious to see what the LeBron & Wilt teams end up looking like as in both cases the years' specified required the GM to really think about what they wanted. The LeBron pick was bold but totally defensible and I admire that. I'll also note that in those projects I mentioned, Wilt was the other guy picked in the top 2 with Jordan both times, so potentially quite the steal there.
