1. LeBron James - This could be the most complete offensive season of any player in NBA History. LeBron finished like Shaq at the rim with 78.2 FG%, an eFG% of 46.7% on jump shots while being assisted on less than 30% of those shots, and shot over 70% of his shots either at the rim or from 3 point land. However, this isn't what made his season the best. What made LeBron so great was his ability to generate and lead an offense that had the highest offensive rating in playoff history. They eclipsed an SRS of 12 in the post-season while having no great defensive players on the roster and capped off the post-season while being the best (or 2nd best to Curry) player in the NBA Finals against a team that dwarfed the Cavaliers in terms of talent and bench play.
2. Stephen Curry - His offense was neck and neck with LeBron James and his ability to integrate and sacrifice for Kevin Durant was seamless. He is the driving factor for the Golden State Warrior's offense along with Draymond Green, and both players were able to maximize Kevin Durant's strengths while take away his other offensive weaknesses.
3. Chris Paul - Paul had a chance to have his peak season this year if he hadn't missed time, but it still may be his peak for me. His ability to control the game was second to no one this season, including LeBron James. To put things into perspective, the Clippers had a +14.2 on court rating, while Stephen Curry had a +17.3 on court rating, while the comparison of Green/Thompson/Durant to Griffin/Redick/Jordan is not very close.
4. Russell Westbrook - He is going to prove a lot of doubters (Hi clyde) wrong this season with adequate help. The Oklahoma City Thunder run this season was very reminiscent of the early 2000's Kevin Garnett runs, and I have a soft spot for KG.
5. Draymond Green - This is a spot I am still up in the air on. I picked Draymond Green not only for his ability to integrate a player like Kevin Durant, but also for his passing/defense and ability to lead. He was not afraid to call Kevin Durant out early in the season and set the tone for the entire Golden State Warriors that this season was about Championships, not regular season awards/records. He was the best defender in the league and most versatile defender in the league.
Offensive Player of the Year -
1. LeBron James - Led best offense in post-season history
2. Stephen Curry - Best offensive player on Golden State Warriors and has a gravity that is equivalent to LeBron and Jordan
3. Chris Paul - Similar to Curry, would be best offensive player in most NBA seasons
Defensive Player of the Year -
1. Rudy Gobert - Although he wasn't quite as good defensively in a vacuum as Green, I believe he was more impactful both for his team and in the league as a whole.
2. Draymond Green - Ability to switch onto any one and quarterback the defense AND be a rim protector was impressive. He was allowed to focus on defense even more this season with the addition of Durant, and helped Durant become an even better defender.
3. Kevin Durant - I think there is a bit of drop off after Gobert and Green. Durant was able to have the 3rd most impact, but Millsap may be a better defender in vacuum.
Rookie of the Year -
1. Malcolm Brogdon
2. Dario Saric
3. Buddy Hield
Most Improved Player -
1. Giannis Antetokounmpo
2. James Johnson
3. Dion Waiters
6th Man of the Year -
1. Eric Gordon
2. Lou Williams
3. James Johnson
Coach of the Year -
1. Erik Spoelstra
2. Brad Stevens
3. Mike D'Antoni
Executive of the Year -
1. Bob Myers
2. Daryl Morey
3. Dell Demps
