In this group, who are the worst defenders? I would exclude Eric Snow as I feel like I'm the only one that considers him a great defender.

I don't know about the first two guys.

Maybe we should focus on Rondo, Beverley, Rubio, Billups, Jrue.

Who are the worst 2 defenders in that group?

My 2 cents comparing Jones and Attles. As a Warrior fan, I obviously saw more of Attles than Jones. That being said, I think I was a bit more impressed by Jones' defense than Al's. Attles got his defensive rep by being one of the GOAT tough-guys. Back then, he was always the first name mentioned when players were either asked "who would you least want to face in a dark alley" or "who would you want to have your back in a dark alley"? Nobody messed with Attles. Being such a tough guy allowed Attles to get in your grill, knowing that you weren't going to protest too loudly. But that toughness aside, Jones struck me as being a bit quicker and with a bit more length than Attles. Jones moved his feet very well. Attles could obviously get up in your jockstrap as well as anyone, but bigger guards could post him up and he wasn't as good of a help defender as he was a man defender; Jones was very good at both.

But if you want to fight me over it, I want Al Attles on my side!

Thank you. But in a list of the the best 15-20 defensive point guards ever, would you put them both? And, have you got any other name beside the ones we mentioned?

If we move on we could start with the 10° best defensive point guard today

I think Fast Eddie played more two than one but am willing to be corrected. Most of these come up pretty short in terms of career value even though all were nice defenders at their peak.

Brian Taylor might get a mention; ABA guy, nice steal numbers.

On that PG list, I would personally remove
Patrick Beverley: Only 9k career minutes and per possession defensive impact doesn't look amazing. Coming back from knee injury at age 30 already also doesn't bode well for future longevity
Wali Jones: I am usually not too impressed with defense of guards in the early eras and this guy didn't have notable stats or an incredible defensive reputation or great longevity

Point guards I would add:
Nate McMillan (he is most definitely a PG)
Terry Porter
Doc Rivers

Also, if you are just doing top 10 defenders at each position, I am not sure why you are still waiting for more nominations. The top 10 is most likely just going to be some combination of Payton/Kidd/Frazier/Stockton/Paul/Blaylock/West/Cheeks/Buse/DJ. Might as well start the actual voting threads to get the project going.

What do you think? Should I open another thread for the #10 spot, or should we continue here? And, most importantly, poll or not?

MRR averaged 10 assists 3 X - he definitely goes in as a point guard. I say go on with it & use a poll.

I think it's better to open another thread so people is more attracted. Btw, why do you want to start from 10 and go back to 1 and not the opposite? Also I don't think you can make a poll with 20 options (iirc no more than 10) so how do you want to handle it? Personally, I'd open a thread called something like "Best defensive PG ever" and let people make their case there and after 1 day or 2 tally the votes.
