Hells yeah I would. Feels great to be acknowledged on the board.
Two things though, :
1. I honestly have zero knowledge on players pre-Russell like Mikan and the NBL guys. What's the policy on voting based on crash courses that are likely to be far less informed than the typical votes from longtime voters?
As long as you're willing to take that crash course and give them serious consideration, that's fine.
There are a handful of relevant [to a top 100 project] players who should be considered whose careers took place at least partly before Russell. Mikan is likely the most relevant of them all, though also Dolph Schayes, Paul Arizin, Bob Cousy, as well as Bill Sharman and Neil Johnston. Bob Pettit came into the league two years earlier than Russell, too, iirc.
At the very least try to get a handle on those guys, and consider looking into guys like Ed Macauley, maybe Vern Mikkelsen; Doctor MJ can provide a lot of solid argumentation for Jim Pollard, too.Baski wrote:2. My criteria gets pretty weak from about the 35th spot downwards, where the 70s and 60s players start to feature. From there it'll mainly be based on some combination of limited film, raw box score stats and accolades. Pretty sure anyone looking would find a lot of inconsistencies in there and I think I should be upfront about
Sounds like not necessarily your criteria that's weak, but rather the tools with which to implement your criteria. I think that's fine, though; appreciate the upfront-ness.
fwiw, I'll be presenting some new(ish) info regarding several 60s/70s players both within this project and within my personal Game Logs project [for which I've made the info public access].
Sounds great. Looking forward to it
