Absolutely; that's basically what the Condorcet method is. And it's what is giving him a fair/decent shot of winning this spot despite the fact that Dantley had more 1st-place votes.

Thanks guys, but:
trex_8063 wrote:Those of you who are among the 9 original voters, you don't need to do anything more (except for Joao Saraiva:
I need to know your favourite between Lanier and Cowens, for Condorcet purposes
); I already have your opinions/order logged.

Joao Saraiva is the only one of the original 9 voters I need to hear from [regarding his order between Cowens and Lanier]; for the rest of you I already have your votes and order catalogued.

The runoff is otherwise down to NEW voters [like Clyde Frazier above].

So if Cowens is the choice over every single player head-to-head, then why ask two new voters who their preference is? Why should the choice of people who havent been voting (taking nothing against Clyde or anyone personally) decide over those who have been voting?

I would think if a player beats all other players head-to-head that should decide it.
Just my thoughts, I'm not running this.
Thanks

Or we could go by who had the most 1st place votes before moving into this concordiat in which case it would be Dantley . . . it all depends on so many factors. You just have to go with the system in place when you look during a thread; otherwise bias tends to creep in. I just want to say thank you again to Trex for running this.

Well, it's been 24 hours [a pinch over, actually.....so more of a "slow, lingering death" than "sudden death"], and the sudden death criteria [first to get >/= 2 new votes AND obtain/maintain Condorcet lead] has NOT been satisfied--->Dantley was first to get two new votes, but they were not sufficient to pull him ahead of EITHER of the other two contenders.

So as stipulated in main thread, rather than leave the runoff open indefinitely, we fall back on who is the all-around Condorcet leader.......which is Cowens:

Cowens leads Dantley 7-5 (that's including all nine original voters and the three runoff votes cast).
He leads Lanier 7-4 with 1 unknown (Joao Saraiva never got back to us).
And fwiw, Dantley and Lanier are tied 6-6.

Calling it for Cowens. Will get the next up shortly.....
