Reggie Jackson - experienced player that was huge in the recent playoffs and started well this season. Would take him before several guys that were selected.
I think here the reason is that there is little trust that it was sustainable.

- What's clear is that you don't find legit first options over 30th pick, they often go much sooner than that, and then you don't have much more time to find your second one.
- After that the drop is enormous and it can be very dangerous to go over the third round to find your second scorer (I think Baski and Dr Positivity are the only ones who did that).
Moreover, these are all max level players.
- Doctor MJ and Dutchball97 (and maybe dutantbird) are the only other owners who took a defense first guy in the first two rounds.

I still believe that the replacement level for a cebter is extremely high, unless you have on of the MVP level guys.
The difference between Jarrett Allen and Ivica Zubac, who are similar archetypes, is not comparable to the one between guards or forwards chosen in similar positions.

Not too sure I agree with this analysis. The difference between Allen and Zubac is enormous, you might be overrating Zubac.

Generally another point is the large difference between top 5/6 guys to other first options guys in the league. Very hard to build a team around a top 10-15 guy that will be the same level as a Durant / Giannis / Curry team.

You either have Zubac significantly higher than anyone I have ever met or have not watched Jarrett Allen this season.

Zubac is a offensively limited center who is not above average defensively for his position. Jarrett Allen is having an all-nba caliber season.

well, to both of you, I think it's a combination of a few things:
1) I think you're actually underrating Zubac a bit, he is a starter level center for a contending team who actually does many things similarly to Allen. They score in similar ways, with similar efficiency, Allen slightly more this year but he's in an environment that helps him more. They both protect the rim well, neither of them is a one man defense like Rudy, Allen is better in space for sure but Zubac seems stronger to me
2) this is not to say that Allen is not clearly better, but we must set the benchmark. Around Allen we chose Brown and Irving, around Zubac (I really made a big mistake using a guy I picked as an example) Melton or Nance. It's not just the position, in G and F you go from primary creators to finishers/defensive guys. In C you have guys who fill a similar role in the team
