With the 12th pick, the team I represent selects, Chris Paul!

I believe Stan is up... and I cannot find a message to ping him with.

Really?
Is that because you don't see him as a clear best player or because you don't think he provides enough offensively to build around?
I definitely think he's capable of being the best player on a contender-level team (I think he's more or less proven that in the last year-and-a-half).
The Jazz have the #1 offense in the league with Gobert leading the team in minutes played; and I suspect a lot of people fail to recognize how much their 3pt attack [#1 in 3PAr and #3 in 3pt%] revolves around Rudy (screen assists, and help defense collapsing to cover him on the roll).
So no, it's not that I don't think he provides something to build around offensively.
I may have overstated my surprise. Off-the-cuff [like, at the start] I would have thought #8 sounds about right for him.
Any slight surprise I felt at him going 8th was based on 1) that I thought there were too many people who didn't properly appreciate how good he is (e.g. 90s-nostalgic fans who think Dikembe was leaps-and-bounds better); and 2) simply noting that Jimmy Butler was still on the table.

Thank you! It's amazing to me just how good his longevity is, and that he is still doing this in his age 36 season.

whatever we do is dicey, unless we turn this into something more similar to fantasy basketball.Baski wrote:Ryoga Hibiki wrote:Baski wrote:Ok. What about form? Is that frozen too? I know you said that we're using the versions we expect them to be in a couple months, but how does that work exactly? It's got me thinking about guys like LeBron and a bunch of others who haven't been drafted yet. Suppose we don't all agree on certain players' projected form. Like what's the consensus on LeBron 9 months from now? Who is to say Luka actually plays better than he is playing now? Plus those other players who haven't been drafted yet. There's a reason they haven't been drafted yet, so how does that affect their projected forms? If their projected forms are much better than current, doesn't that make them sort of like unintentional "steals"? If they're worse or the same, then we gotta treat LeBron and Luka similarly too, no?
Sorry that was way more questions than I though I'd have.
The key is a realistic playoff shape they will have in a few months.
And you can argue using current and recent performance + age curve.
If someone was great last year but has a small injury or in not in shape at the moment, you can easily argue he'll be ready in a few month.
In LeBron's case, I would take what he was 1 year ago but add the aging factor (he's getting to the basket much less). Moreover, for guys with frequent small injuries we can use the minutes as the main factor. Even LeBron, we can say that he's going to get too high minutes there's a significant chance of injury during the season, hence argue that he's going to be used less but closer to full strength.
It's my first time, so any suggestion is welcomed!
That seems a bit dicey to me, especially considering we all have to agree on what a realistic playoff shape is for most of these guys. Like Falco said, LeBron's realistic shape is not gonna be easy to agree on, and I'd argue it's similar for this year's Luka. He may round into last year's form, but then again he may just be having a down year a la Le2007. Do we all agree on which it is?
My thoughts keep going back to those guys who haven't been drafted yet, and it seems to me that it's because of their current form as opposed to their realistic playoffs shape. When they eventually do get drafted and it's time for their evaluation, I'd feel uneasy accepting a playoffs shape that would've had them drafted significantly higher than they actually were. I can't mention names, but hopefully y'all can picture who and what I'm talking about.
So, I dunno, my suggestion would be to either commit to their current form or their 2021 forms, just to have a stable point of reference. Judging by the picks so far, It seems that's what everyone is drafting on anyway.
the point is to bring some sort of evidence to show that this player is likley going to be that good and CONVINCE the other posters.
I think we have a panel here, including spectators, that can be realistic in their evaluations.
to me key thing is: if someone was great end of last season and now looks a bit off or has some nagging injuries that are short term makes sense to give him the benefit of the doubt.
LeBron was already far from his former self last year, so you should bring evidence that he's somehow ramping up.
And be convincing with it.

I could've gone with legit a half dozen players here, but I think he's probably the best choice of that group

Quite possibly the best shooter at the Center position in NBA history. Granted, nobody expected from bigs to shoot 3s prior to the pace-and-space era, but that's not KAT's fault. He's a volume shooter who averages 42% from 3. This is unprecedented for an all-star-caliber Center. Based on a quick search, Mehmet Okur was shooting 44.6% from 3 in 2008/09, but he was attempting only 2.8 threes per game. That was his only +40% 3pt-shooting season in his career.

So far most of the choices seem relatively good to me. I did a projection draft (similar to this in a way) on Discord and its cool seeing the differences so far!

Actually I think you can have a pretty good case that he would be much better in 6 months.
He had some incredible games during the last postseason and he has been some injuries.
Just should be checked how fast it normally heals and definitely it will be discussed how much the new rules impacted him.
To be honest, the player that I have the most difficulties projecting so far has been LeBron.

Anyway, I really want to see how you guys are going to build around some of these players.
Gobert in particular, it's going to be a very interesting exercise.

Hmm. Ngl, I'm still not sold that it will be "fair", but I will let it play out and see how it goes. Hopefully my issues will be ironed out in the first round. I see where you're coming from though.

Relating to my point earlier, I am not surprised because like I said, people are drafting based on current form. If the panel is convinced that Lillard is projected to be, say, a top 8 player, then he was a steal, but not in a good way. Judging by how it's going, there are clear top 15 players who may not even make the 1st round. It's weird, but admittedly I'm interested to see how it will shake out during the voting phase.

Dr Positivity 1h.
I have no lists at the moment, Inreally recommend you guys to share if you can check regularly.
FYI in a couple of hours I would go to bed, so it might make sense to share with someone else for the following 7-8 hours.
