This man is ridiculous. I think he has a 20-20-20 game in him.

Lebron made it to the finals with that cleveland team.

Bird would have won 4 rings with that team, in this weak ass era of basketball.

Oh man, JUST missed a 50 point triple double. Has that ever been done before? According to bball reference nobody has done it since 85 but that's as far as the search criteria goes back.

The mask clearly threw off his vision, it took until overtime to get the tenth assist
“If you're getting stops and you're making threes and the other team's not scoring, that's when you're going to see a huge point difference there,” coach Billy Donovan said.

Russ also had a 48 point, 11 assist, 9 rebound game vs the Pelicans earlier this year. Just missed out twice

Its weird seeing Russ get all this love from the fans/media this season. It so different from the way its been his whole career. As a long time Westbrook homer I'm not sure how I feel about it

They took a rebound away so he didn't get the triple double.

Wade almost did as well, 50-10-9

It's true, but that's because of the whole "He's not better than KD, he needs to fall in line and stop shooting so much!" narrative.

Think about it though...considering how this season has played out so far, is there really any conceivable way you could rationally hate on Westbrook and what he's done? You can hate on the man himself, the way he's acted to the media etc. But in what possible way could anybody try and downplay the impressiveness of what he's done on the basketball court? There isn't any. At least not from a reasonable, logical perspective.

As an OKC fan, it's going to take some time to come off the bad taste that win, yes win, left in my mouth. Simply because I didn't expect to be taken to OT, at home, by the lowly, lowly 76ers; especially since the trade we've blown out better teams than that. But, this is the NBA and when you sleepwalk and give roughly 5% effort on defense for 3 quarters, any team on any given night can give you a scare.

I say that to say this: it's still a little difficult for me to fully appreciate Russ' game tonight simply because I'm not happy about needing OT to beat the 76ers. I think I'll have to go back and re-watch the game on Friday or Saturday when the Thunder aren't playing. Still, I am aware of how amazing he was tonight. The guy really is a freak of nature.

Check out our gamelogs on nbastats.net.

As far as I can tell, there have been six in league history (two on the same day, unless my notes are incorrect):

Elgin Baylor (LAL vs STL) 12/13/1961 52p 25r 10a
Richie Guerin (NYK vs PHI) 02/25/1962 50p 11r 13a
Wilt Chamberlain (SFW vs DET) 02/13/1963 51p 29r 11a
Elgin Baylor (LAL vs BOS) 02/13/1963 50p 15r 11a
Wilt Chamberlain (PHI vs LAL) 03/18/1968 53p 32r 14a
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (MIL vs POR) 01/19/1975 50p 15r 11a

EDIT: Westbrook is the second 49-point triple double, after Bird vs POR on 3/15/92 (49p 14r 12a).
Now that's the difference between first and last place.

Yeah, I get what your saying. The bigs just flat didn't show. McGary and Nick were solid, but Ibaka and Kanter were completely missing, and the perimeter D was worrying again. Russ was awesome, and Waiters finally had a good game.

Typo, 32 rebounds, sorry. :)

Here's the spreadsheet: http://nbastats.net/01NBA/07tridou/10-1 ... eason1.xls

Man... even dialing it back a bit and looking at 40-10-10 games since 86, he now joins lebron, bird and jordan as the only guys to do it more than once. And fittingly, he was the last one to do it:

http://bkref.com/tiny/bgfr4

As a quick aside, if the thunder do make the playoffs this season, i'm very curious to see if he'll finally turn the corner and improve his decision making at the end of games. That's been my only real issue with him over the last few seasons. He has always seemed to only know one speed. We'll see what happens. Regardless, he's on an absurd tear right now.

Yeah, but that really did look like a game where the team just came out with absolutely zero respect for the opponent, and put forth next to no effort for three quarters. I remember at various points throughout the game thinking some of the guys just looked completely disinterested. It almost came back to bite them in the butt. I mean, yeah, the 76ers have a handful of players in their rotation that wouldn't be able to find a spot on another NBA roster, but they're still NBA players and you can't come out and just completely overlook someone.
