Interesting... I always though being quicker and more explosive meant that it's harder to control the ball, since you're flying and changing directions at great speed. Most of the time, LeBron's basically jogging into the paint at a Pierce-like speed, or he's backing his defender down and the ball's just bouncing all over the place. He's also much stronger now than in Cleveland, but yet, it seems that contact seems to bother him more when he's dribbling...

If Lebron is stronger than he was in Cleveland, the difference is negligible. He's the same size as he was in '09 and '10.

It's turning into a DECENT game for Lebron, but he waited waaaay too long to look for his own shot.

Err... gotta catch 'em all?

Whilst I wouldn't describe Lebron as a Kobe/MJ/Russell perfectionist, he has shown a desire to adapt and evolve his game deep into his career (rather than just refine skills) so this is perhaps an annoying offshoot of that tendency.

However you wanna put it, his handle looks worse to me (as he bobbles another dribble which ends up in a turnover...)

Yep, this is starting to become a trend. LeBron letting his teammates have a shooting drill in the 1st half and then he decides to take over in the 2nd.

Don't know why he waited so damn long to actually start trying. This isn't Milwaukee. Chicago WILL beat Miami if LeBron carries on with this approach.

LeBron's looked like Ray Allen at the line tonight. Same shooting form and release.

Maybe I'm being an optimist, but this might be the wake up call Lebron needed.

Lebron had an ok stat line but he wasn't dominant at all tonight and his presence was barely felt.

As I said in another thread it is way to early to be comparing this kid to monsters like Peak Shaq & Jordan.

We will see in the next few games if tonight was just a fluke or if perhaps we were all 2 quick to label this guy the GOAT.
Really disappointed in Lebron tonight.

:o Wow, did not expect that. Not too sure what to make of this loss, though I have a few thoughts

- Lebron needs to actually play during the first 3 quarters, Miami can't get away with him playing so incredibly passively through the first 3 quarters.

- Wade took a boneheaded three down 2 with about a minute left. This is CLASSIC Wade, taking a bad shot at exactly the worst possible time.

- Speaking of Wade, did anybody else think they had him handle the ball way too much down the stretch in this game? He's just not the type of player who can create efficient offense off the dribble at this point in his career.

Sideshow, if you're here, what'd you think?

Heat were +8 tonight with Wade in the lineup and -15 with Lebron in.
They actually fell apart when Wade wasn't on the floor.

24-8-7-2-1 on 8/17 FG is actually a really solid looking stat-line but something was definitely missing from LeBron tonight. I fully expect him to bounce back and have a monster game 2.

What about Lebron's horrible fadeaway shot that nearly airballed with under 2:00 left? Was that the best shot he could have gotten or the best play? Looked very indecisive and ended up taking a terrible shot. Really, he was quiet the final 8:00 in the halfcourt aside from one nice fall-away jumper. He got lucky with a few cherry-picked transition and-1's.

This is why I wanted Lebron and the Heat to play the Bulls. It will give them a wake up call. They can't just coast for the 1st 3 quarters and then play like they did against the Bucks to win a title. They probably could have continued getting away with it against the Nets, but not the Bulls and certainly not the remaining teams left.

I want to see the 1st half version of Lebron vs the Bulls the rest of the series.

Yup. Looking at the box score it seems like an average LeBron game but it just didn't pass the eye test. I didn't see the same fire in him that's normally there. I really do think the long layoff played a role, and this loss was a wake up call.

I'm predicting a huge game 2 recovery for him as well.

Looking back now, James wasn't dominant, but he wasn't bad either... If someone said to me the game will be tied at halftime and LeBron will have 22 points (7/11), 4 rebs, 3 assists, 0 TO's in the 2nd half, I'm definitely thinking the Heat would win the game. LeBron wasn't the reason the Heat lost last night, nonetheless, those lame zombiesque 1st halfs need to stop. He needs to assert himself from the get-go as a scorer and then he can slowly pick his passes and stuff. There's no reason the Heat should collectively put up like 10 shots before LeBron even takes one.

Everything went right for the bulls lets not forget they blew heat out game 1 2 years ago. Ray guarding nate in the clutch was bad coaching he wont have a game like that again. Lebron gave so many open looks and they kept missing

Difference then was that in game 2, the Heat ended up playing a guy the Bulls were not prepared for and never recovered in Haslem. In the Heat's case it is the reverse because the Bulls can bring back up to 3 more guys for the series that the Heat may not be prepared for in Deng, Hinrich and Rose.

The one good thing about Heat losing last night is that it will put an end to passive-LeBron. In basically every playoff game so far, he has shown aggression for one stretch of the game - usually in the 2nd half. And that's been good enough to put the game away because the competition was so poor. Chicago is very good on the other hand. Passive-LeBron will be a thing of the past from Game 2 onwards.
