David West is by far the better scorer...agreed that Horford is the better player though.

I think it's tough to say which one is better. It's entirely based on the makeup of the rest of the team. Neither is a player you build a team around, but if you need a big man that scores because you already have a guy like mgasol, Noah, bogut gortat? If the team has brook Lopez, Channing frye or amare then horford is the better complement. They are both very different players, with different strengths, so it's tough to compare.

Perhaps in 1 or 2 seasons. Stoudemire usually is the best scorer of the three.

OK we can disagree there, I think you missed my point. Horford is a great player, but so is West. I think West is definitely a more reliable "go-to" guy in the post, someone that defense game plan to contain, Horford is a different type of player, his offense isnt what teams try to game plan against, its the intangibles that you brought up. West is a comparable passer to Horford, Horford size and quickness are better then West, which helps to make him a better defender.

Horford has never had a role where he is the go-to offensive player down low, West has for most of his career. Could Horford be pretty good if in the same role as West? Probably. But very few people have seen him in that role going up against NBA level competition. I question weather West could fill Horfords role on the Hawks more then I do Horford to Wests role on the Hornets, but I still think West is the better offensive player.

I would say Horford but it's close

I could see an argument for West being the most overrated scorer in the league, because he takes neither of the good shots (at the rim or 3s). One could argue the entire goal of an offense is to get to the rim or create 3s. West to an extent I suppose helps pick and roll drivers but not that much. It would also make sense to me because if Paul is that great and has had his limited success, than maybe West is overrated

Come on, this is not even close. West is a VERY advanced scorer at PF, and has both inside and out to his game. When he's hot, he's actually a goto guy. Horford has a roleplayer's game, mostly midrange jumpers.

At this point in time, West, but he also has CP3 giving him wide open looks all day.

I would definitely take Horford over West.

Very strong argument. After watching this, there is no doubt in my mind that David West truly is the superior scorer.

Yup this.

Horford has maxed out at a little over 15 ppg. He's never really been put into a situation where he's been asked to score. West has scored 17+ ppg for 6 straight seasons, peaking at 21 ppg. West hasn't taken 12 FGA/g (Horford's career-high) or less since his second season.

TOTALLY different contexts. Horford is an excellent mid-range shooter, one of the best in the league actually, but he's not really an iso player. Great passer and stuff, but we really don't have a feel for him as a scoring threat. At West's peak, he was rocking 20.6 and 21 ppg on a little over 17 shots per game (53.5 and 54% TS). He wasn't a rabidly efficient player, but he was around league average and his mid-range shooting isn't really far from Horford's but on higher volume. And hell if he didn't shoot 47% FG on 5 FGA/g from 16-23 feet, which is dirty. Only Dirk beat that by any significant margin, and Dirk is an anomaly in the annals of NBA history that way.

West is a second- or third-tier scoring weapon, and I mean that as a compliment. Strong base, decent set of basic moves, great off-ball movement and jumper, PnR skills. Works very well with Chris Paul but he's also a solid weapon on his own. We've seen him be a legit PF 20 ppg scorer on league-average (or thereabouts) efficiency, which isn't easy to do, even with a good PG. Haven't seen Horford do anything like that (yet), so for now, it's gotta be West.
