This is going to be a great match up to watch Saturday....Two of the most exciting young true PGs in the game. Can't wait!

Rubio is more exciting, and is better at everything minus finishing around the basket. Even a better 3 point shooter. While being 2 years younger. Not much of a comparison. (I really like the Lin story, and rooting for the kid)

O RLY? Rubio is more exciting than the Taiwanese 15th man who has utterly dominated the NBA news cycle for every game he's seen significant minutes? Lin has opposing fans chanting his name last night, and cheering his every move twice as loud as any home team player.

IF (and I acknowledge it's not that likely) Jin can maintain this level of production, he's not just better than Rubio, he's a rival for CP3 and Rose.

As for Rubio being better at everything minus finishing around the basket...

2pt FG%
RUBIO: 39%
LIN: 61%

TS%
RUBIO 49.6
LIN: 61.3

Lin is not just better around the basket, but far better anywhere inside the arc, and his efficiency simply dwarfs Rubio's.

Pts/36
Rubio 11.3
LIN: 22.7

Lin has shown the ability to score TWICE as many points, on staggeringly higher efficiency.

AST%
RUBIO: 40.9
LIN: 49.5

Thus far Lin has shown a higher assist rate while passing to scrubs like Novak and 10 ppg C Tyson Chandler. Rubio has been passing to Kevin Love.

TOV%
RUBIO: 22.6
LIN: 17.8

For a turnover machine with "no left hand" Lin also turns it over less.

TRB%
RUBIO 7.3
LIN 7.1

Virtually identical even though this is one of Rubio's biggest strengths

STL%
RUBIO 3.6
LIN 2.4

Advantage Rubio, though Lin is looking like a better man defender

Ortg
Rubio 103
Lin 117

Wolves have been a mediocre offense while Rubio's been on the court. While Lin's been on the court the Knicks have been one of the best in the league, even though they have literally no other 10 ppg player currently healthy.

PER
Rubio 16.7
Lin 26.8

Rubio above average, Lin MVP caliber

WS/48
Rubio .123
Lin .265

Rubio above average, Lin MVP caliber.

Now, Lin is 2 years older, but Rubio has more experience both as a pro and as an NBA player.

Yes, this is all a small sample size for Lin and he will probably stop being THIS insane at some point. But the numbers say that IF this is the real Jeremy Lin... he's a top 3 NBA PG right NOW.

All I posted was indisputable facts.. thus far this season Lin has put up per-minute numbers rivaling any PG in the league.

I didn't make up the stats, dude. Whether I like it or not the fact is that IF Lin maintains the performance he's shown so far this season he's one of the best PGs in the NBA. He's been putting up 23/9/5/2/1 per 36 minutes on Nash-like efficiency.

2011-2012 PER, Point Guards

26.8 Jeremy Lin
26.1 Chris Paul
25.0 Derrick Rose
23.9 Steve Nash
22.5 Russell Westbrook

Obviously sample size is a huge issue and he could start sucking any day now. When he does I'll be the first to admit it. But until then you can't argue that his numbers THUS FAR have been pretty (Please Use More Appropriate Word).

dogrufus: You cannot be f'n serious. Lin played 3 games against shi*ty teams, and did nothing before that. You're comparing that mythical player to Rubio. Don't do that, compare them as prospects, as young players. You know exactly what Rubio is, and you probably know something about Lin, before he came to the league. He's the same player than he was before those 3 games.

You seriously implying that every scout and coach dropped the ball on this one, and Lin is gonna keep up those MVP numbers? That's not an if dude, that's the mother of all if's. Unless he sold his soul, it's highly unlikely, he's gonna do anything even remotely close to those averages. And if he does, all NBA teams (including the Knicks) should be ridiculed for not drafting him, till the end of times.

Steve Novak would be the 3rd best player on the Timberwolves. I would trade the rest of our entire roster to get a guy that can shoot like him.

Rubio would be in heaven if he had a player like Tyson Chandler.

If the Wolves offense is mediocre when Rubio is on the court, then it's the worst in NBA history when he's off.

Wolves still have one of the absolute worst teams in NBA history outside of Rubio and Love.

This is why I hate realgm: the level of reading comprehension is extremely low. My post was filled with caveats, acknowledging the small sample size multiple times, and acknowledging that he is unlikely to keep it up.

Yet seemingly no matter how many times I say these things, my post is read as "ZOMG GUYZ LIN IZ GONNA PUT UP 23/9/5 FOREVERZ HE IS NOW MVP FOR REALLZZZZZ"

All I did was post Lin's stats from this season thus far (where he's played five full games' worth, not three), and say that if he kept it up he's a top 3 PG. I didn't "imply" anything. Stop addressing arguments I never made. FWIW it's worth I don't think Lin is MVP level, but I do think he's clearly got what it takes to be a solid starting PG in this league.

And I wouldn't go acting like it was completely impossible that a lot of people dropped the ball. It happens with unconventional players. Ben Wallace went undrafted, bounced around, and then had an All-NBA caliber career, because he didn't fit the usual profile for a star big man. Same with Lin as a PG.

Don't look now, but the Knicks' offense without Lin was ranked 25th, worse than Minny's offense was last year, pre-Rubio. And that's with "superstars" Amare and Carmelo. Subtract those two and our offense should be sub-D-league caliber, and yet Lin has made it look well above average.

Maybe so but Kevin Love would be the 1st best player on the Knicks, by a lot. And the Wolves may have bad depth, but the Knicks easily have the worst 4-15 in the league outside of Lin. We have like 90% of our salary tied up in three guy.

Tyson Chandler is a great defensive player and an excellent finisher but let's not get carried away. He has no offensive move other than catch-and-dunk. He doesn't even have a 10-footer and when he goes to back the basket he looks as graceful as Joel Anthony. He's the MVP of the Knicks because of how he's turned our defense around, but anything he gives you on offense is just gravy. If he was this great offensive force I would think he'd have averaged 12 ppg at some point in his career.

Steve Novak is so one-dimensional he makes Kerr look like Pippen. Granted, his one dimension is really good, but he's a complete zero on the glass and on D. And come on, you're exagerrating... Beasley and Wesley Johnson aren't that bad, and Pekovic has a lot of promise. Your team has suffered because you've insisted on playing Darko a lot of minutes instead of acknowledging he's never going to be good.

That and the Flynn pick was a disaster. Derrick Williams is probably going to be pretty good in 3 years. The Wolves have made strides, they just need time. If they somehow land JR Smith and bench Darko I think they're playoff caliber...

dogrufus: You started to list that Lin is better at that, and that, and go on, so you clearly didn't care about the sample size at the end, even though you mentioned it. So what are we talking about? Don't insult my intelligence by saying i can't comprehend what you wrote. I can, it just clear, that you didn't care about the sample size, even though you mentioned it. If you would care about it, you would have at least used career stats on Lin.

Not that kind, i mean, in that scenario, we were talking about an undrafted player, being the best PG in the NBA, comparing his PER to Paul, and Nash, and talking about if he can keep this up. Of course he can't keep this up. I really like the kid, heck, i wanted the Mavs to keep him, but the bandwagon is spinning out of control. He can be a very good role player in this league, and he has borderline starter potential, but comparing his stats, to any premier player, or any elite young talent like Rubio, and Irving is just... well, pointless, and dumb, to be honest.
