Ronaldo Blackman, how good was he?
He was the leading scorer of the Mavs franchise until Dirk took his title. How good was the prime Ronaldo Blackman? and who would you compare him with in modern days?

Rolando Blackman was pretty good. Not epic but more than solid.

blackman was nice... his strengths were his offense and defense... wasn't a great passer or rebounder, but could really score and defend.
comparing him to today's game is hard because he was a very good scorer without the 3-pt shot, and there aren't really many/any shooting guards in today's game like that or that play offense AND defense really well.
i would say definitely a joe johnson but with better defense.... a danny green but with better offense.... an oj mayo but with better defense.... blackman was something along those lines.
andre igoudala, eric gordon, jarret jack, manu ginobili, marcus thornton are some other comparisons, but he had better D than all of them except igoudala, and a better offensive rating than all except manu... the sg's in today's game are pretty garbage really - just look at the list - wade, harden, kobe (now injured) and after that, pretty big drop-off into above-average land... a prime blackman would rank as the 3rd to 5th best sg in today's game.

A guy really good at everything, but not elite at anything. A complete 2-way player. Considered by some to have been the best guy at defending Jordan. Solid guy, too. Not the superstar Dirk is, but a perfect guy to be the face of an expansion franchise. He and Harper were a very underrated backcourt and had Tarpley stayed clean its possible the Mavs win a title with Ro.

He was a pretty good on those Mavs teams. He would be what Joe Johnson is in the NBA now.

Actually not the face of the franchise, that was Mark Aguirre; Blackman, in addition to being a solid 2-way player, was a very quiet professional guy that got very little publicity. Very similar player to Mitch Richmond only not quite as high for as many years.

Maybe not during the Acquire era was he considered that outside of Dallas (or even in Dallas) but up until Dirk established himself I would definitely say he was the best ambassador for a team that has only had one true franchise player in its entire history--Dirk.
