PPP stands for Points Per Play. Finish consists of all the plays when a guard would drive the lane and create a shot for him to just go up and finish, like this.

question: did you compile those stats?....what is the source?....link? (I understand they are from Synergy)

the only Synergy numbers I've found are only for the current season. I'd like to see past season databases if available. thx

I watched the games, but I also used the play-by-play on NBA.com as a guide, which saved a LOT of time. One game would take maybe 20-30 minutes at the most.

His PPP is really a lot lower than most people tend to believe I think. Shaq is obviously an offensive machine, but the idea that he scored every time he started to post up is more than an overstatement when you see player comparisons on here.

Those post up stats are not impressive at all.

What is classified as a pull up jumper? How does he have that many of them.

Various others. It's too bad the old school games don't exist, I would be very interested in numerous legends from the 50s and 60s.

Everything on this forum is a gross overstatement when it comes to their favorites, and especially their least favorites. The PPP is lower than expected mainly due to his poor foul shooting. When comparing his post up FG% to Charles Barkley in the 84 game sample, he is not up to par in efficiency, drawing fouls, or finishing through contact. But there is a HUGE difference in volume. Shaq here is getting 17.6 post up plays per game compared to 4.4 for Barkley.

For me watching the tape its sometimes difficult to divide post-up and isolation plays...

It's very subjective thing, as well as other play types.

According to your data Shaq had 1542 total points and 1344 total plays during these 3 playoffs runs.

But in reality he had 1590 points and 1547 plays (assuming your and1 count is right).

So instead of 1.15 ppp player (your data) he in reality was 1.03 ppp player.

I think people did this overstatement because the way he scored. He looked more dominant than he was.

ISO stats looked pretty bad. Only 0,86 PPP at his peak in the playoffs... So, basically post-up and ISO were under 1 PPP... His strenght was finishing more from this research.

He was intentionally fouled quite a bit, even in the back court. This chart only keeps track of plays when he was making an offensive move.
