Both are sub-par playoff performers so that won't be much of a factor. Robinson handily to be frank. Much much more valuable defensively while giving you similar offensive numbers. He also didn't have Stockton to help him out. In fact, he barely had anyone at all to help him out.

If asked who had the bigger/better career, I'd go with Malone, largely based on his insane longevity/durability, and his even more insane length of prime (was a seriously elite player in the league for like 14 straight years; has >100 more games played at an elite level than Robinson has TOTAL games played in his career).

But who was better at their peak? I gotta go with Robinson.

Can't see a reason to take Malone in a peak comparison because of the divergent defensive value and similar playoff performance levels. Both great, both awesome finds for a team and some of the best bigs around on O but Robinson was a defensive anchor and Malone was "only" a good defender.

Robinson. I'd take Malone offensively, but neither were nearly as good offensively in the postseason and Robinson is a true game changer on the defensive end on a consistent basis, and that's clearly a bigger factor than whatever disparity there is between them offensively, since I don't think it was too big to begin with. One thing I do like about Malone is that he clearly seemed tougher than Robinson, which we saw a couple of times in the playoffs, most notably '94, but that's not enough for me. I'll take my chances building a title contender around Robinson.
