Hakeem was such a beast. I just got done watching Hakeem vs Robinson '95. Truly a one-of-a-kind talent.

Those midrange numbers are ridiculous, especially when paired with his low post back-to-the-basket scoring game and 75% finishing at the rim.

He's one of the few guys who makes me cringe when I drive down the lane because I know that if he's anywhere in the vicinity, I might not only get my shot blocked, but I might also get my head blocked at the same time. Hakeem doesn't care what he blocks, as long as it's round and smooth — so my head qualifies.

2) What are your thoughts on Hakeem's defensive range/quickness after rewatching this footage in detail? How would you compare him to say a Garnett, Russell, or others in those regards?

Yes.

Dream was very comparable to Russell in many areas, though Russell also cleaned the defensive boards like Garnett or Rodman. He was so quick at recovering from above the FT line to block a shot, much like this below.

Also his hands were even quicker than his feet on defense. Hakeem is proof (to all the "weak era" detractors) that Russell would dominate in the modern era.

Bases on this footage, overall (& defense) would be 1993 or 1994, offense perhaps 1995, even though his defense had slipped a bit. I like 1994, but that may have to do with the smaller sample of games from 1993.

Hakeem was great in his peak, but that's it. Shawn Kemp was another monster I enjoyed watching at his peak but similarly dropped off after his finals challenge.

That's where my mind has been leaning, too. He had ridiculous defense and rebounding in 1993. 1994 was perhaps his most complete year, with Exhibit A being his NBA Finals performance against a great big man in Patrick Ewing where he destroyed Ewing's offense and still posted 27 PPG on 50 percent shooting against a GOAT defense.

1995, his rebounding really started to go and the defense saw slight slippage (though still posting solid numbers as a man defender against O'Neal and Robinson), but he opened his offense up and could basically do any volume necessary while maintaining good efficiency. Just seemed more comfortable with his jumper and trusted his teammates with passing. He was more familiar with the system and where Elie, Smith, Horry would be. That 1995 Rockets offense in the playoffs was scary good.

Yeah, I would personally have Hakeem's peak as 93. His best all-around year imo. Wouldn't disagree with someone picking 94...either of those years have strong arguments to be his peak...he got to showcase his abilities more in 94 though.

I think 95 is his best offensive year, but his defense slips more than his offense improves imo, so I see that year as a bit below his 93 and 94 seasons.

I thought Game 4 was when he really broke out offensively, particularly in the 2nd half.

I don't have an account, but I wonder how they would classify the Finish category. On this chart, it consists of all the plays when a guard would drive the lane and create a shot for the big man to just go up and finish, like this below.
