The Russell Westbrook Thread (2014/15)

Post#1 » by bondom34 » Fri Oct 10, 2014 6:34 am

Seems the player threads are starting up, so for discussion of Russ.

Really hoping he picks up right where he left off in the postseason. He was amazing, best I think I've ever seen him play, if he stays healthy for a full season and plays mostly at a somewhat similar level, OKC will be tough to beat. Here's to a great season.

He had a great post-season and this 40-10-5-5 performance against the Spurs was something out of this world. He's soon to be 26 he will be entering his prime. One of my fav player.

Don't care about all those "true PG" debate etc... When this guy is on, he litteraly steal the show and is a top-5 player. Love his fiery attitude and his heart of lion. Seems like a cool guy too.

So bondom34 what's up with Russell ? What is say about his workout this offseason and what did he try to improve ? What's his mindset coming into this season ?

If he can cut the ill-advised threes and the turnovers, he would be the best PG in the league. I think his transition dual-threat with the drive or the pull up at the free throw line is one of among the hardest things to guard in the league.

His defense will be something I watch carefully as well. Despite his epic impact this last playoffs, OKC was still better off on that end without him. To me, with his athletic ability, there's no excuse for that. I hope he improves there and then I'll consider him for top 5.

If he can stay a little more consistent I can see him becoming a top 5 player in the League.

I am really excited to see him and Durant play off each other for a whole season. "knock on wood"

I think he's just come into this season w/ a new perspective. Haven't really heard anything specific about offseason work other than working out w KD and the team, but I think the key is just that he could do offseason work this year. Last season he was out til early November, so a camp and a few preseason minutes could help quite a bit. I do think the time off gave some perspective on how he best helps the team though which may explain some of the changes in him come playoffs. Hoping for a full season of him this time.

Just stay healthy. You're perfect just the way you are.
Pay no mind to the battles you've won
It'll take a lot more than rage and muscle
Open your heart and hands, my son
Or you'll never make it over the river

Yeah just what I thought. He's an allstar and Tier 2 (below LBJ and KD) player in this league along many others.

Next month he will be 26 and enter his prime. He's at that time where the biggest leap he can make is mentally. But I think it's the hardest part with Westbrook, how canalize all that anger/fury/agression of his game to the right direction all the time ? It brings some weak points in his game and at the same time it's because of this that he's the player that he's right now.

I don't care what people say about his percentages. Westbrook is a winner. He does whatever it takes to win and guy has no nerves.

Big fan.

Didn't before his injury against the Rockets he didn't miss a game since like highschool ? I remember he was out for the Olympics final but he finally played in 2012. Dude doesn't care, he was dismiss to like december and went back playing in the 3rd game of the season like nothing happened

Personally I am a fan but I have him 3rd in the league right now behind CP and Steph. Athletically he has the tools to do whatever he wants on the court but if he played with a bit more control and cut out some of the bad shots he could move up to #2.

Edit: More than his offense if he became a consistent two-way player he will a formidable challenger for the second best or the best PG in the league.

When did these become a thing for every player?

I swear we only used to do these for top 1-3 players.

Anyway, can't wait for WB this year, whenever he was on the court last year he was absurdly productive. Will be interesting to see re-kindled Rose vs. WB debates if the latter can stay healthy. They're 2 of my 5 favorite players (along with Mamba, PG24, and Melo).

Also interested to see how much he slides over to SG this season with the pathetic Lamb/Roberson rotation you guys have going at SG atm. I actually like him and Reggie as backcourt partners at least for short stretches, I think it would serve Brooks well to at least experiment with that lineup a bit more. May serve to improve the Westbrook/Durant dynamic.

Hopefully Westbrook is able to lead his team off to a good start with KD out. Will be fun to watch.
