Kobe's rank by ESPN

Kobe Bryant was ranked 93rd by ESPN this year.

I'd like to know how you guys feel about that.

He seems to have the skillset to be well above that (come on, no way he's out of the top 30 in that department). But it seems to me his in game decisions and incapacity to adapt to any other kind of role actually makes him go way down on the list. He can still shoot the ball obviously, and he's a good passer when he's willing to pass. On defense I already don't expect him to have a fantastic season.

So, do you agree with that ranking (slight deviations means agreeing) or do you see him way up or way down?

I think it's pretty reasonable. He has the ability to be a top 50 player, or even top 30, I'm sure he can still take over a game once in a while, but most of the time, he's going to be a slightly negative impact player. Sort of reminds me of Pete Maravich - has the flashy moves, scores 20+ ppg, but is also selfish and inefficient.

Besides, Kobe has already played more than 55000 minutes in the NBA, he's top 10 all-time in terms of total RS + PS minutes played, he's 37 years old, coming off two injury-riddled seasons.

There's really nothing to whine about here. Also, I'm sure Kobe will find some extra motivation when he sees they ranked him 93rd, so it may as well turn out to be a positive thing. Image
