Future MVPs and Best players on the planet

Post#1 » by Roddy B for 3 » Wed Mar 9, 2016 4:46 am

Which players do you think will win a MVP or be regarded as the best player in the league one day?

Lock:
Curry(obvious)

Possible:
Durant-(obvious)
Westbrook-(obvious)
Cousins-(needs the right team, and perhaps maturity. I could see him put together one super peak year though. Still very young)
Giannis-(unreal talent)
Anthony-Towns-(he and Prozingis could be the heir to the Dirk/Duncan/KG era)
Prozingis-(read above)
LeBron(could be the Karl Malone of SF's logevity wise)
Simmons-(MVP potential?)
Kwahi-(MVP potential based on team)
Griffin-(MVP potential based on team)
Davis-(close to a lock, barring team/injury isues. Age wise he is right with KAt/Zingis to take over for Dirk/Duncan/Garnett)
Paul-(very short window here)
Irving-(could win MVP if he becomes a better player than say 2018 Lebron and they have a Warriors esc regular season)

For various reasons I will add these players in the slim to very slim odds group
Lillard
Wiggins
Harden
Parker
Drumond-(best chance of this group imo)
George
Lowry
Embiid
Oakafor
Wall
Russell

I seem to belive big men will be back in a big way and the era of PG's is slowing down.

-added names mentioned before the November 2016 bump (Buddy Held, Deandre Ayton, Jimmy Butler, Devin Booker, and Rudy Gobert )

As a darkhorse, I think Giannis has a good chance to win an MVP award in the span of 2018-2024.

I see the next 6-7 being split between Davis, Curry and Durant. Towns and Giannis are based on massive projections and though they should be very good I would stick with the safer bet.

I'm surprised at the Leonard love so far.

Y'all really think he edges out Curry by NEXT year?

What one year can do to a man's reputation.....

Last season people would have Davis at the top for the next 5 years.

I do. I think that the era of duncan/manu/parker comes to an end this season.
Kawhi will take over(already has in game) and he will prove that he is born to lead.
Aldridge will be far more comfortable next season and the spurs will roll for the next 5 yrs at least.
That's what i expect.

with Duncan manu retiring, the spurs will not be as good as warriors and Leonard will need to elevate his game to another level to have a chance against Curry.

Anthony Davis and Kawhi Leonard are the two that jump to mind in my opinion (outside of Curry, of course)
Cousins, Drummond and Lillard have a chance for MVP, but more so in the case of "best player on the best team"
KAT and Giannis if they (and their team) continue their upward trajectory, but that's always a difficult thing to do
Watch out for DeAndre Ayton in 2 years - he's the next big thing

Let's see.

First rule for me: If you've already won an MVP, you're not on the list.

Okay then:

Before this year Anthony Davis was the obvious choice for me, and interestingly that pick still makes sense though it doesn't seem as likely now as it did then.

I think that people would really love to give Russell Westbrook the award once, and they'll do so if Curry has a year where he's still better than Westbrook but worse than his own peak self.

Kawhi Leonard has a legit shot at MVP because of his place as the new franchise player for the best run franchise in the league.

I could see Blake Griffin getting the nod if all the breaks went his way.

After those guys you're talking about younger guys who have yet to get anywhere near that level. Main ones who come to mind:

KAT
Porzingis
Giannis
Gobert
Russell

Good chance none of them actually win, but I could see any of them winning.

After that you have the prospects, and I don't follow the draft that closely.

I don't see the spurs dominating with 2 good/great players in kawhi and LMA. Two players aren't enough to win a title these days. If manu/duncan retire and tp continues to decline, I don't see them beating the better teams in the west.
So many people who attain the heights of power in this culture—celebrities, for instance—have to make a show of false humility and modesty, as if they got as far as they did by accident and not by ego or ambition.

Year by year is way too much of crapshoot.

Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, Anthony Davis and Karl-Anthony Towns are my candidates for the next 10 years. (Though there's always a possibility that there's a future #1 that hasn't entered the league)

MVP usually comes down to team record, although this year could actually be the exception if you'd switch the two best teams' records. It could happen although I would probably bet on a Curry three-peat (this year's race is over, he could blow his ACL out tomorrow and he'd still win it).

The Spurs utterly destroyed the Heat for the title in a more dominant run than we've from anyone in years back when Kawhi was not yet a star and Aldridge wasn't on the team. I consider the Warriors the team with the best future going forward over the Spurs, but the Spurs are not to be dismissed. Not ever.

I'm with you, but I the question makes it tough.

From my perspective, if Curry can keep this up through the playoffs, that's the GOAT peak. And if that's the case, there's really no reason Curry couldn't keep that up for another 5 years, and no good basis for actually predicting in any given year that he'd disappoint.

But people are understandably uncomfortable predicting Curry's going to win like 7 MVPs in a row, because from past experience, I don't think anyone thinks that will actually happen.

So how then do you convey the ebb & flow that naturally comes from actual players with actual physical bodies that can get hurt when it comes to projecting future MVPs season by season?

Well I got around it by not answering the question like that at all.

Curry will be a major threat for the next half decade and I think LeBron has a few more chances as well. Durant will be a significant MVP favorite as well.

So for the next 3-5 years it will be Curry, LeBron or Durant. Purely due to how bad their teams are I think it'll be a while before Davis and Towns get mentioned.

However, once the Warriors and Cavs fade away due to LeBron and Curry's age/decline, yes, Anthony Davis and Karl Towns will rule the league. They are the next great legendary big men and can very well finish in the same discussion as the Duncans, Hakeems, Kareems etc.

Well the league was different in 2014 and the 2014 heat only had one star in bron, since bosh lacked confidence and wade wasnt the lean, rejuvenated version of himself he has been this season and last.
Kawhi was emerging and tp, ginobili, duncan were legit. They're still legit now. Just sayin that without those 3 guys, I dont see them dominating. Will they have a shot at a title? Most definitely.
