A curious thing to say about a player who has ...
Led the league in Win Shares,
Led the league in WS/48
3 times finished top 5 in MVP shares (despite the accolade not existing for the first six years of his NBA career - he didn't win the NBL MVP in rookie year, Don Otten claimed that).
6 times All-NBA First Team
7 times top 5 (actually always top 4) in PER (not available for first two NBA years or his NBL year)
8 times top 5 in Win Shares (not available for NBL year)
6 times top 5 (actually always top 4) in WS/48 (not available for first two NBA years or his NBL year).
Is there anyone else with this sort of resume who you think "wasn't even top 5 in his day"?
It would perhaps be easier to discuss if you clarified the five players you have above him and, I suppose, what you mean by "his day".
