67 Wilt or 2013 LeBron?

Post#1 » by 1993Playoffs » Fri Aug 11, 2017 2:01 am

Both players were uber efficient
I dont know which player peaked higher though

Is this regarded as Wilts peak?

Which player would you rather have?

13 Lebron over any Wilt version, but it's pretty close.

Peak LeBron is on top tier with MJ and Shaq's peak. Wilt is a tier below

Wilt by a mile.

24/24/8 with 68% FG. Elite defensive anchor, or we would see his bpg and spg go way up and his PER.

Lebron was better in the regular season but once you factor playoffs you realize that Lebron was down 3-2 with HCA and down 5 points with 30 seconds left in game 6 as well. He won because another team basically choked at the end. Wilt 1967 went thru the competition without being down in an elimination game with 1 minute left with HCA.

I'd take Wilt in an instant.
If you're asking me who the Mavs best player is, I'd say Luka. A guy like Delon Wright probably rivals his impact though at this stage in his career. KP may as well if he gets his **** together.

Many people disagree with me, but I still believe that 1966-67 Wilt Chamberlain is played at GOAT individual level. His combination of rebounding, defense and offensive efficiency is unmatched by even the best ever. Wilt did things nobody has done before or again that season. He played such an unique role for his team. Wasn't volume scorer anymore but was even better with his shooting selection than James in Heat era. Polished his passing to perfection. I have huge amount of respect for Hannum. He created perfect system for this era and helped Wilt becoming something we've never seen (and will never see again).

Some can say that he wasn't first option anymore and he had stacked team. Second one is true, but he's not the only one with stacked team. LeBron himself had great team in 2013. First one is just false - he was Sixers first option. He was their main facilitator and centerpiece on offense. He made that team GOAT candidate.

What he did in playoffs was even more impressive. He averaged triple double in first two series. One of them was against Bill Russell and the Celtics. In the finals he didn't shoot as much because he faced GOAT man defender - Nate Thurmond. He still had quadruple double.

The only real drawback is his FT shooting. It was very weak season for him in that aspect. 1967 Wilt with 1962 Wilt FT touch would be unreal.

It's not. Wilt at worse would be in THAT tier. That year him playing point-center with his team eliminating Russell's Celtics in the peak of their powers.

According to your logic, Tim Duncan doesn't deserve any respect.

I rewatched that 2013 series and saw Lebron being sagged-off by players and reminded me how teams don't fear Lebron outside of 10 ft. Lebron 2013 was a monster but I would take a point center with elite defensive anchoring here. Wilt 67 might be the greatest peak ever.

Taking Wilt here though I disagree this was peak Wilt, I'd much rather have the 64 version.

It's Wilt, not by a huge margin but it's Wilt. This was the year he was fifth in ppg, first in rpg, third in apg, first in FG% and probably first or second in blocks.

That is unheard of statistical dominance by anyone in sports.

I'll take 67 Wilt's season as the GOAT individual season.

67 Wilt is the best ever, peak wise.

2013 Lebron is closer to Bird than Jordan, Shaq. Let alone Wilt and Kareem.

Lebron '13 was the perfect player to me. Defense, scoring arsenal, shooting, passing rebounding...etc.

The people taking Wilt to me are basically saying that peak Wilt is then the GOAT peak because those numbers will never be touched. Most people who place Wilt at a lower ranking do so taking into consideration things like pace and era. So, if people are taking Wilt here due to stats then that should be their GOAT peak as well IMO.

I'll take this one: yes, better than peak MJ. It seems the whole world is clouded by recency bias. Forget stats for a second because that argument will yield a "weaker era" backlash, which gets overblown IMO. Consider that at 7'2" Wilt was a world class sprinter/long jumper and could bench 500+ lbs. Who in the modern era could defend someone like that?
