Odom handily.

Because at his best, not only was he more productive, but even if you take it with a large pinch of salt, he was (again, at his very best) very impactful (cf: https://sites.google.com/site/rapmstats/top-rapm).

Horry is probably more affordable and ticks most of the big role player boxes at least passably (shooting/spacing and defense) and is more useful to a good team [edit: "than he is to a bad one" not "than Odom is"] and so more likely to end up on one. He's probably more consistent. But at his best he's way off Odom's best and he's not a great "3rd banana" if he's clearly and decisively 3, and one and two aren't really, really good and you're looking for a team that won't be lucky to win.

Semantics but Horry is not a player I would describe as a 3rd banana, he's more of a high end role player. Odom had all-star talent so it made more sense to see him as a big 3 with Kobe and Pau

I don’t know why maybe my methodology is wrong but it seems the 3rd piece is often if not always marginalized so I’d think a guy who doesn’t need the ball in his hands and is clearly a better defender and pretty easily a better shooter seems the better fit. Though I suppose it depends on how strong your top 2 are.

If one of your stars is a low post scoring center, Horry might be better because he's not a headcase, is more consistent, and most importantly has a better outside shot. Odom has a bit more talent overall though, but they are pretty similar players.

Odom, but if it is the 4th quarter, I am taking Big Shot Rob.
