Most exciting players of all time

Post#1 » by penbeast0 » Fri Aug 9, 2019 4:36 pm

Who care is we win a ring, I want to build a team of the most exciting players off all time. This is not the team for the Big Fundamental, this team will be coached by Rick Pitino and Doug Moe (other coaching suggestions welcome).

Starters must play the position that they played most of their career in real life. Top 3 reserves (G/F/C) must have played most of their career as reserves.

F - Charles Barkley
C - Alonzo Mourning
G - Clyde Drexler

Reserves need to be career reserves, can't be all superstars

Just to throw it out there, I will go with:

Nate Archibald (or Magic) Muggsy (and Manute at C) might be even better choice, good call
Pete Maravich or (Allen Iverson)
Vince Carter (or Julius Erving)
Charles Barkley (or Connie Hawkins)
Shaq (or Darryl Dawkins for the after game commentary if nothing else)

Reserves:
Manu (of course)
Dell Curry
Chris "the energizer bunny" Gatling

I’d have to think more about the rest of the team, but having Klay and Kyrie is a must have for me. Seeing Klay just put on a show when he gets hot is a thing of beauty

Limiting it to just players I've seen:

G - Maravich
G - Monroe
F - Erving
F - Hawkins

I can't think of a center that struck me as "exciting" as much as these four did.

Jim Jackson, Joe Smith, Chucky Brown, and Tony Massenburg are the most exiting players of all-time. Each of them played for 12 teams.

I value flashy passers over high flyers generally speaking in ranking excitment.

G: Magic - Showtime.
G: Pistol Pete - The Original Showtime.
F: Dr J - The Original His Airness (unless you wanna claim that is Connie)
F: Bird - Ultimate showman and trash talker; best touch passer in history
C: Wilt - Harlem Globetrotters catch a quarter off the top of the backboard. Most athletic center in history and was a good showman as well.

Bench:
G: Jordan - His Airness.
F: Connie Hawkins - playground legend and flashy high flyer who also played in the ABA/NBA
C: Bill Walton - Maybe best passing center. In contention at least and he's known as a fun-loving guy

Honorable mentions: Iverson, Dominique, Kemp, Vince Carter, Shaq, LeBron, Drexler, Kobe, Nash, Cousy, Isiah, Pearl, Barkley, Westbrook, Jovic

Oh man. I love this thread.

Magic Johnson
Michael Jordan
Shaquille O’Neal
Larry Bird
Dennis Rodman

If I allowed my bias, Derrick Rose would be on that list too. Entertainment value=1,000,000,000. You can also trade Bird for Lebron or Rodman for Nique Or Barkley, but those are my choices.

If I have to be non-biased, I’d replace Rose with Iverson, but I do believe that at his peak Rose was the most exciting PG to watch with his unique finishing speed and dribbling combo.... regardless of how good you believe he was. Still, I can’t put Rose over Magic who was a dynamo. He’d run that team damned well.

If I had to exclude the 80s and 90s,

Iverson
McGrady
Wallace (if eliminating Shaq)
Lebron
Sheed

Need some true reserves other than JJ Barea

You thought you could just sneak that in with no one noticing?

No one’s mentioned Derrick Rose yet? He’s my #1 choice at Guard.

Watched Chapman for a few years in Washington (as a starter) and didn't see the hype though I know it was there. But why was Edgar Jones exciting?
