The best guards duo!

Post#1 » by SpreeS » Sat Aug 10, 2019 4:39 pm

Who would be the best guard duo at five year prime stretch?

DET Thomas/Dumars
GSW Curry/Klay
SAC Oscar/Richmond
MIA Hardaway/Wade
POR Lillard/Drexler
HOU Francis/Harden
ORL Hardaway/McGrady
S/O Westbrook/Payton
NY Frazier/Monroe

Chemistry between both, duo impact on wins, the most portable duo, guards impact on bigs - all important.

My top 3

Hardaway/Wade
Lillard/Drexler
Curry/Klay

Later I will write my pick, need to think.

1. West/Kobe

This duo would play off each other marvelously. West has enough range to space the floor for Kobe and both are excellent passers. West's attitude, mindset and humbleness would compliment Kobe perfectly.

Jordan/Rose
Magic/Kobe

They didnt get a mention too. It isnt about the best guards duo in NBA history. BTW my criteria is that player belongs to team where he played the most games/seasons. So Paul cant be picked by HOU.

You can’t tell that a lot of these are hypothetical?

Francis/Harden over Harden/Paul?

5 year prime Harden and Paul would be runaway the best here, that’s probably why they weren’t chosen.

West is a better fit with both Magic and Kobe as he is the best off-ball player by a significant margin.

Only 3 that actually played together, Curry/Klay, Frazier/Monroe, Thomas/Dumars (probably in that order for me). Hard to say with many of the other pairs as generally they are two very ball dominant players thrown together and like Frazier/Monroe, one will have to change his game somewhat to coexist.

I would add West/Goodrich, Magic/Scott, Stockton/Hornacek to list of top 10 pairs that actually played together but yeah, as people said, Magic/West probably the GOAT combo, better synergy than either with Kobe.

Kobe peaks with any big man though imo.

Could you imagine Phil working the triangle with Kobe/Wilt?

Hardaway/McGrady for the fifty games they would be healthy together.

Beyond that, Lillard/Drexler in the regular season; in the playoffs they probably fall below Curry/Klay, but I suppose there is something to be said for durability.

Hardaway/Wade probably has the highest offensive ceiling, especially in the PS, although Curry/Klay is more of a sure thing regarding fit. Lillard/Drexler would also be incredible to watch

If I could choose any combo though it would be Jordan/Butler. I get that they're both SGs but they could easily share playmaker/facilitator duties and the backcourt lockdowns they could impose on opponents would be brutal
