This is very good comparison. Both very underrated all-time great seasons.

Magic was not far from his best that year and he carried relatively mediocre Lakers offensively with his passing and post game (that peaked in that period). He also proved he could play in slow team without showtime fastbreaks.

Duncan was as close to his best as ever in that season. It's one of his better defensive seasons. His offensive role changed a bit in RS, but it wouldn't stop him from being elite and he stepped up in playoffs.

I'd probably pick 2007 Duncan because I'm higher on Timmy than on Magic overall. Can't pick wrong option though, amazing players!

Mavs with Dirk were always a tough matchup for Duncan's Spurs and they dodged a huge bullet by avoiding them that year. Duncan was carried by Manu offensively and Magic was carried defensively by Vlade Divac. Magic had a lot less help offensively and Duncan had a lot less help defensively. Overall, I value Duncan's offense over Magic's defense and TD is the better player but Magic had a carry job more comparable to 2003 Duncan.

Magic was carried by Vlade Divac. I've officially heard everything now.

Divac is an excellent defender and was the anchor of those early 2000's Kings teams. I'm just talking defense here. Offensively is where Magic carried them.

I went with ‘91 Magic but I think either is a fair answer. I think Magic’s last full season tends to get overlooked. It was at the “end” of his career but that end wasn’t the result of a drop off in performance or debilitating injury. He was only 31 yro, playing at an incredibly high level and could probably have been a top 5-10 player for another 3-4 seasons. That he came into the league so young, his size, style of play and top tier bbiq could have resulted in a career that tapered off more like Kareem’s than ended so abruptly.
