Mavs, Cavs, and Hawks are the 3 teams we have been talking about. Anyone got another team that even approaches mediocrity rather than futility? (Not time for the Wizards yet . . . speaking as a fan whom the team has been making miserable for 50 years).

Of those, Mavs have the Dirk years and the Aguirre years, Cavs have the LeBron years and the Price years, and the Hawks have the Nique years and the Pettit years. I am tempted to eliminate the Hawks because of the racism of the Kern years. Cavs were depressing as hell for a long time and Ted Stepien may be the dumbest owner in NBA history; they actually changed the league rules and awarded the Gund brothers a free 1st round draft choice just for getting him out of the league. So, I guess by elimination it's the Mavs.

Vote: Dallas Mavericks

PS: Forgot Nuggets but their playoff record is pretty awful.

I think I've been denying the Cavs long enough. In a Cavs vs Mavs comparison, as compared to the Cavs vs Bucks: the deficit the Cavs have in rs win% and % of seasons making the playoffs is significantly smaller. Meanwhile, they have a significantly better playoff series win%, better proportion of deep runs (CF or further), same number of titles [1] but with THREE more finals appearances in just 10 additional seasons (albeit in easier conference). It's close, but I'm gonna go with them.

Vote: Cleveland Cavaliers.

Side-note: by the next thread, I think I need to add in the Nets to the teams I list in the above categories (edit: maybe time to start giving some token thought to the Bullets/Wizards by the 19-20 thread too).

Dallas Mavericks - very solid run with Dirk of consistent 50 W seasons and a title and finals, and some success before in the 80s. A more stable franchise than the Cavs, but close.

Vote Mavericks

Bucks just beat them last round so it's the Dallas Mavericks for me here. Cleveland had too many garbage years, and even in their peak era I don't think the organisation added much value to the good fortune of drafting (and reacquiring) LeBron.

Mavs - 3
Cavs - 1

Calling it for the Mavericks. Will have the next up in a moment, and will probably leave it up a day or so extra given the timing. Happy holidays all.....
