Xinjiang and BLM are both ethnic issues, so there is actual grounds for possible hypocrisy.
Sure, if you are looking for reasons to dismiss their cause. Lots of people fight for causes that are deeply personal. They know what its like to be black in America. How its impacted themselves, their families, and their communities. I don't think its remotely reasonable to expect them to have the same energy for China.
They should not. They have their bias. They do not have to protest against China, but if it's brought up to them and they make a stance supporting China treatment of minorities - then that is entirely different from what you have said.
Also, protest for minorities only work if people not from that ethnic group also jump in. BLM would not work if there was not empathy from non-blacks.
So regardless, empathy among the African-American community would only be a positive thing, and yes, male African-Americans do by in large lack empathy toward other ethnic groups, religions, genders, and sexual orientations. It should be criticized and commented on, otherwise it will not change - hence, the appeal for movies like Moonlight.
One can criticize African-Americans without strawmanning to belittle their protest. You do not seem convinced of that because some with agendas will do so - which is inevitable in any type of political discussion.
Michael J Fox and his foundation have raised millions of dollars for Parkinson's research because it affected him personally. Calling him a hypocrite for not raising equal money for AIDS or breast cancer would be utter nonsense.
It would be nonsense, but that isn't the equivalent. The equivalent of that would be him saying we should NOT raise money for AIDS or breast cancer.
Just as those players who are working for equal justice for black Americans aren't hypocrites for not doing the same for those affected in China.
If they said something that supports oppressing minorities in any countries, then they would be hypocrites, among worse things.
